‘August 2021
‘As we focus on membership in Rotary this month, | ask you to help make history this year. For more than 20
years, our membership has stood at 1.2 million. Rotary is a vibrant organization with a 116-year history, members in
more than 220 countries and geographic areas, and a rich legacy of work in polio eradication and other humanitarian
programs. Rotary has changed so much in our own lives and the lives of others. As we Serve to Change Lives, don't
youthink Rotary could have an even greater impact on the world if more people were practicing Service Above
My vision is to increase Rotary membership to 1.3 million by July 2022, and the call to action is simple: Each
One, Bring One, This year, | want every Rotarian and Rotaractor to introduce a new person into their club.
We are a membership organization, and members are our greatest asset. You are the ones who contribute
0 generously to The Rotary Foundation. You are the ones who dream big to bring good into the world through
meaningful projects. And of course, you are the ones who have put the world on the brink of eradicating polio,
‘As we make membership a priority this year, let us focus on diversity by reaching out to younger people and
especially to women. Every club should celebrate its new members, and every Rotarian who sponsors a member
willbe personally recognized by me. And those who are successful in bringing in 25 or more members willbe part of
‘our new Membership Society.
Even as we share the gift of Rotary with others, let us be sure to engage these new members, because an
engaged Rotarian is an asset forever. And remember that engaging our current members and keeping them in our
‘clubs is just as important as bringing in newcomers. Let us also be ready to form new clubs, especially flexible ones. |
‘am very bullish on clubs that hold virtual or hybrid meetings, and satellite clubs and cause-based clubs can also be
very effective ways of growing Rotary.
‘As you grow more, you will be able to do more. Let us keep empowering girls through our work in each of the
areas of focus. Scholarships for girls, toilets in schools, health and hygiene education — there is so much we can do.
Projects focused on the environment are also attracting interest the world over. Do participate in these projects
locally and internationally to make this world a better place for us and for all species,
Each of yous a Rotary brand ambassador, and all of the wonderful work done by Rotarians around the world
needs to be shared outside the Rotary community Use social media to tell your friends, colleagues, and relatives the
stories of Service Above Selt
Finally, 'm challenging every club, during the coming year, to plan at least one Rotary Day of Service that will
bring together volunteers from inside and outside Rotary and will celebrate and showcase the work of your club in
your community. Visit rotary.org to find out more about all of these initiatives, along with other ways to Serve to
Change Lives.

Trustee Chair 2021-22
August 2021
In August, we focus on membership — exploring ways we can expand Rotary's ranks and reach. As
we form new clubs and answer RI President Shekhar Mehta's call of Each One, Bring One, let's consider
how these efforts will have a positive impact at every level of our organization.
Rotary's two greatest assets are its members and The Rotary Foundation, and they are linked. Our
organization is made up of more than 48,000 Rotary and Rotaract clubs, and without our dedicated club
members, we can't perform service. Our members also carry out the Foundation's mission of doing good in
the world, by working on grassroots projects and making contributions that support countless Foundation
programs and grants.
With more members in Rotary, the Foundation could do even more good in the world. We would
have more hands to set up water, sanitation, and hygiene projects, so that more people could access clean
water. We would have more minds to plan global grants projects that support prenatal services, so that
more babies could live. We could fund more district grants that support literacy, so that more people could
learn to read.
Today, roughly a third of our members actively support the Foundation through annual giving or
other means. Imagine how we could extend Rotary's reach if we were to increase that engagement, even
by usta little, More Rotarian contributions would mean additional funding for the Rotary Peace Centers, as
well as more matched contributions to help eradicate polio, thanks to our partnership with the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Rotary Foundation is a powerful force that efficiently carries out impactful and sustainable
projects around the world; Charity Navigator has recognized The Rotary Foundation with a fourstar rating
annually for 13 consecutive years. All Rotary members can be proud of this. And how great it would be if all
Rotarians would support the Foundation in whatever way they could.
Ihave a simple request this month. Please take 10 minutes during your next club meeting to
discuss ways to get more involved in the Foundation this year. It could be planning an online fundraiser to.
benefit the Foundation or partnering with other clubs for a global grant project,
Whatever you do, remember that our members — all of us — drive Rotary's efforts and sustain our
Foundation.

President-2021-22
NEVER, did limagine becoming the President of Rotary Club of Allahabad GRAND during a world-wide pandemic that
isolated us in our homes & put us in masks. Ithas caused so much financial stress in our community and the world, along with the
mental anguish of notbeing able to shake hands, or be socially close to our family and friends.
But here | am, the inducted President of this club preparing to take over leadership during these unusual and difficult
timesinthe history ofpresent generations,
‘AsRotarians, welook at these changes and challenges as atime of opportunity! How disconnected our club would have
become without the web-based video conferencing tool, Zoom, that allows us to meet on-line together, safelyin the convenience
‘of urhome as we continue our workas the ‘People of Action” in our community and around the world
‘As Wayne Dyer once said, “Change the way you lookat things and the things you look at change!”
Let's embrace the new technology this century has to offer. Le’s try new ways of doing things. Let's move our club
forward into the world that our children just take for granted. Thisis the word of our future members, the ones full of new ideas,
spiritand energy. We need them on our Rotary Club of Alahabad GRAND's team because we wantto continue the service
And | would be remiss if | did not thank my Father PHF Shri Ravi Krishna Agrawal, for it was because of him, that lama
Rotarian. I came to appreciate Rotary and the values it upholds, the dedication to service ofits members through the projects
that were successfully undertaken locally byhis club, Rotary Allahabad Midtown,
‘And so, feel honoured and humbled to become the President of the Rotary Club of Allahabad GRAND for 2021-22 and
with the help and support of this year's executive, Board Members, and alll of the Club Members, | know we will be able to work
together to meet the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of this coming year.
This coming year will be no exception! As President, this year, | promise to lead this club, by always being mindful of
Rotarian's 4-Way Test concerning the things | think, say ordo—

‘And as our recently approved vision statement of our organization states:
“Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our
communities, andin ourselves.”
ROTARY ALLAHABAD GRANDThe
topic itself
sounds like a
myth wherein
people have lost
lives, shops were
closed and are
struggling for
living, then how
are covid & business related. Sounds
absurd but reality is that covid has
forced almost each of us to look at
alternative ways of working so that we
can keep up the standard of living
while maintaining social distancing
and locked down remain the ‘mantra’
for survival. Boundaries were drawn
not just across nations but across
states too. Each one of us right from a
vegetable vendor, to an IT
professional have been reinventing
the way of working for his/ her
survival
So, what has happened?
The exploitation of the e-
‘commerce platforms to a larger and
deeper region, social adoption of e
wallets right from the likes of Paytm,
UPI, BHIM, Airtel / Vodatone/ Jio
wallet, etc. Paytm has approx. 350
milion users today and has attracted
investment from Softbank. This
stupendous growth became a reality
ina short span of time and has taught
sellers and buyers the new "mantra’
of business. Paytm mall, Amazon
fresh, Big Basket, Milk Basket grew
exponentially while new players like
Ottipy came into the market creating a
platform from seller to buyer cutting
down all middle men in the
vegetables & fruits market.
Some of the large IT
companies gave the flexibility to
‘operate from home which leadto a
large chunk of workers to shift their
base from large metro's like Delhi,
Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad to

Cities like Allahabad, Lucknow, Jaipur,
Ahmedabad, Madurai, Mysore, etc
This new resident of a small town
wanted connectivity so Telco's data
and mobile connectivity expanded in
B class towns as customers from
Metro's migrated to smaller towns. At
one end, the commercial and
residential value of Metro's was
declining while on the other end, it
started growing in B towns. This led to
the creation of a buyerseller model
with the B town ecosystem, including
local farmers, shopkeepers along with
creating a need for new workforce like
delivery agents. This all resulted in the
growth of new sales for 2 wheelers in
these B towns along with absorption
of new workforce
Online meeting platforms like
zoom, google classes, Microsoft
teams have grown exponentially.
Zoom grew from having 10 million
customers to 300 Million customers.
Online food delivery agents
like Swiggy transformed themselves
into supplying even grocery. On the
other end, a lot of mom & pop shops
and home food ventures
mushroomed up. Many small
entrepreneurs who were hesitant in
getting into the business due to high
CapEx were seeing entering no entry
barriers as they could cook and
supply from their homes. Itwas a WIN
WIN situation for both customers who
started getting the food at very
economical value.
The facilitation of WFH (work
from home) also led to a new
employee segment which were
educated housewives who weren't
able to work due to home
responsibilities. They could easily be
employable again thanks to
connectivity and also to e education,

students in any part of the world
including India, USA & Europe. This
has been only possible due to online
teaching becoming a fact and
adoption of new teaching techniques.
Everyone knows about Byzus which
is valued at $16.5 billion, making it the
world's most valuable educational
technology company.
Think about it - a middle class
family girl who was a typical "bahu" so
far as she couldn't join a multinational
firm due to the limitations of handling
family responsibilities and commute
issues, is now making a presentation
to the audience in California. This is
transformation and creating
opportunities from the pandemic. This
is beautiful and if this model sustains
which certainly would, the world's
balancing act is done wherein we
have farmers from Pratapgarh (near
Allahabad) selling to customers in
NCR at good rates, MNC' like TCS,
Wipro, Google, Facebook having
working professionals operating out
of Buxar in Bihar and Midnapore in
West Bengal, the development of a
nation is not just centered around
Metro cities while i's spread across
the country. This would lead to real
estate prices normalization, lesser
consumption of fuel due to
decentralized growth leading to less
importof ol
Iam excited for the time
wherein I can shift my base from a
metropolitan city to my hometown
Allahabad which is like a dream
coming true. This is a blessing in
disguise and thanks to adoption of
new ways of working and new
avenues of business.

OLYMPICS AND THE BRIGHT ERA OF SPORTS IN INDIA
The
outstanding
performance of
India's
contingent in the
Tokyo Olympics
2020 has been
the highest
number of
medals in the history of our
Participation in Olympic Games.
Let's have a brief look at the
evolution of these games and its
significance; the Olympics are
considered the world's foremost
sports competition with more than
200 nations participating this year
Looking at the history of
these prestigious games starting from
8th century BC to the 4th century AD
they were held every four years, back
then of all the games held throughout
Greece, the Olympic Games were the
most famous. They occupied such an
important place in Greek history that
in late antiquity historians measured
time by the interval between
them—an Olympiad. The Olympic
Games, as per the old folks were held
in honour of Zeus at Olympia in
Ancient Greece.
The modern day Olympics
were founded by Baron de Coubertin
who was a French educator and
historian, founder of the International
Olympic Committee in 1894, leading
to the first moder Games in Athens
in 1896.

The Tokyo Olympics
happened amidst the Covid 19 yet
with unwavering & undeterred
sportsmanship spirit. While India
faced the disastrous first and second
waves of the COVID-19 pandemic the
training of its athletes suffered
drastically during these Challenging
times. However, as they say that it
takes a struggle of alifetime to deliver
a single Olympic medal, the

spectacular performance of our super

‘our champions bloomed with flying
colors.
“With seven medals - one

equation. Apart from Neeraj Chopa’s
historic effort, weightlifter Saikhom
Mirabai Chanu and wrestler Ravi

PV Sindhu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain,
grappler Bajrang Punia and the Indian
men's hockey team won bronze
Chopra's gold took India into the top

Recent success in Tokyo
Olympics -2020 has spread a strong
wave of sports enthusiasm among
youngsters.
For tapping this opportunity
all the stakeholders should put in
efforts to compete in future with sports
giant Countries like the USA, China,
Russia who are investing a lot in
sports,
First & foremost the Indian
government too needs to match the
funding so as to put equivalent
impetus in the sports arena. Indian
athletes are equally talented, with just
the right facilities and world class
coaches, academies, stadiums our
emerging sports persons can reach
new heights and bring more laurels to
the nation.
Sports infrastructure has
improved manifolds over the recent
years. Yet a lot needs to be done for
‘our Young emerging talents, Time and
again our athletes are outperforming
their personal records and performing
superbly well in intemational level
events like Olympics, Asian Games,
Commonwealth Games, World
Championships and Paralympics etc.
Despite being Overshadowed by
successful sports like cricket in our
nation, the rising passion of other
sports among the youth is
unwavering; even with more pace
now post the successful Tokyo
Olympics.
India has a great future in
sports in the upcoming years as the
central government, various state
governments, sportspersons,
corporates, civil societies, NGOs, are
taking big initiatives for this. They are
developing infrastructure, nurturing
talents and designing specialized
programmes for overall development
of sports,
During the Khelo India
initiative launched in 2019, the Prime
Minister Hon'ble Shri Modi exhorted
the young sportspersons to
remember that they are the brand
ambassadors of Aatmanirbhar
Bharat and has asserted that the
world evaluates India through their
performance in the sports arena.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Sports has also decided to
establish 1,000 Khelo India centers
across the country out of which 360
centers have already been notified
‘The next 2024 Olympics India will
definitely surpass all the previous
records,
The nation looks towards the bright
young talents with hopes of bright
future of sports in our country.

"Mindful eating’
What i
mindful eating?
Most humans eat more than
their bodies required. Especially with
the massive choice of culinary
delights, the eye appealing deserts,

stuffs. The problem is, we eat too
much of it and then our body don't
know what to do with the extra
unnecessary calories we eat. So
when you see your fat starts to
expand, that's your body telling 'you
are eating too much’. Now how to
recover from this problem of
overeating? By changing habits of
eating. By connecting with yourself,
away of eating by paying attention to
your body's hunger cues & using alll
your senses while eating &
respecting your own inner wisdom
That's what mindful eating is all
about. Make mindful eating a part of
your 2021 New Year fitness
resolution.
The beginners guide to mindful
eating -
1. Practice portion control: Portion
control is very important but
why is practicing it so difficult?
That's because we miss those
signals our body provides to
make us stop eating when it's
time. To practice it you have to
pay attention to the food you're
eating by keeping away from
gadgets, using smaller plates,
and taking a deep breath before
you start your meal.
2. Eat slowly: Ideally you must
aim to finish every meal in 20
minutes. This is the time range
for our fullness hormones-
leptin, Ghrelin and some
neuropeptides to reach our
brain and signal the satiety
centre to feel full and stop
eating
Stay away from emotional
eating: “Eating to fulfil an
‘emotions and not the stomach:
Ask yourself if you are really
hungry or just eating because
of boredom, anger, frustration,
anxiety ete. Emotional eating is
the reason of feeling guilty after
wards.To overcome this
problem you need to keep
patience and discipline by
distracting yourself with work to
pass of the emotional storm
Lear to stay active: 'The more
you move, the more you crave a
healthier diet’. The researchers
have found that learning new
skills and improving in one area
of life automatically triggers a
desire for improvement in
another. In this case, exercise
triggers diet, which is why you
might see someone start eating
more healthy not long after
starting a new gym regime-
even if diet changes were not
originally part of the plan,
. Practice eating with 3 'S' stand
for Senses, Silence and Sitting
down. One should use all their
five senses to eat and relish
food, they must also make sure
that they sit down and eat, and
in silence without being
disturbed by gadgets and
