1 Where is Naomi at the moment? 3 Where is she going on holiday?
2 Has it been an easy year for her? Why not? 4 What is she going to do there?

Hi,

l'm sitting outside and l'm feeling really excited. The holidays are
beginningl
This hasn't been an easy year for me. We moved here last July and I

started my new school in September. But I was lucky - all my

classmates were really friendly from the first day. Once, when we
were doing a class project, they all came to my house to write a
song together. l've made some amazing new friends.
And the holidays? We're going to go to Malta for two weeks. My
dad was born there. We'll explore the island and have a good time.
Did you have a good year? What are your plans for the summer?
Write soon,
Naomi

@ Oo yo, know what a school exchange is? Have you ever taken part in such a trip?

Greg and Dmytro are on a school exchange in each other3 countries. Read what they say
about their experiences. What places of interest in Kyiv ate mentioned by Greg? What places
in London does Dmytro talk about?

Hi, Dmytro. We went on our flrst tour of Kyiv today. I knew that the city
had some beautiful cathedrals but I didnt know that it had so many other
unusual, as well as beautiful, buildings. I fell in love with the Building with
Chimeras. I tried counting all the different animal sculptures on it but I lost
count after 50!

Hello, Greg. Great to hear that you're in Kyiv! We are in London and saw
the Houses of Parliament today with the big clock called Big Ben. ltb on
all the postcards but it's amazing to see it for real. We also went on a river
cruise to Tower Bridge. I think its London's coolest landmark after Big Ben. i-

Day2
We had another exciting day today! ln the morning we went to the Aviation [Link] are
some really big, old planes and helicopters there. I even got in some of them, which was awesome!
ln the afternoon we visited Andriivskyi Uzviz. Although, there were loads oftourists there, we found
some nice quiet places, too. I bought my mum one of those traditional dolls called motonkos.

bought a local souvenir today; a hat for my grandad from the Sherlock Holmes
Hi Greg. I also
[Link] had a free afternoon, so we weflt to Hyde Park. We walked past Speaker's Corner,
which is the place where anyone can get up and speak about anything. I think the woman
'llistenedtowastalkingabouttheenvlronmentbutshespokesofastthatl'mnot100%sure.

Day3
We visited Trukhaniv lsland today. We got there by crossing a pedestrian [Link] was
a great view ofthe city from the beach. We rented bicycles and went exploring. One of
the most interesting places I saw was the canoeing centre. l'd love io go canoeing on the
Dnipro but lthink I would need lots oflessons first!

It's great that you had such a great day, GreglWe travelled outside London today and went
to Ascot. lts about 40 kilometres away and is famous for lts horse racing. Every June there
is a special week of races attended by the members of the Royal family. Unfortunately,
we didnt see anyone famous when we were there.

Oo Vo, know any traditional Ukrainian food? What is your favourite meal?
@
O"ryn" is writing an email to her friend in the UK. What food does she write about? Read the text.
@

Subject : Hello from Ukraine

Hi Owen,
Sorry | didn't write back sooner. (1)... . There were
more than 20 guests in our house. lt is very common
to cook and eat meals at home in Ukraine. ('?)... .
Then we served borsch. lt is a lovely red-coloured soup
because it's made with beetroot. There were lots of
dishes for the main course - chicken Kyiv with mashed
potatoes, grilled fish, stuffed bell peppers and, of
course, my favourile - varenyky. I love them because
they can have lots of different fillings - potato, mushroom, cream cheese, or even cherry in
the summertime. For this special occasion we also baked a chocolate cake, and I put some
decorations on the top. (3)... .
I wonder if you organise such parties with traditional English food? Please write to me
about it.
Yours truly,
Daryna

A The food we made was delicious, and my grandparents were happy to have all the family
together!
B My parents and I prepared a family dinner for my grandparents'40th wedding anniversary.
C We planned to have only traditional Ukrainian meals, so for a starter we had a fresh vegetable
salad.
