Assignment Overview:

In Groups of Four:

1. Room Layout:
o Lay out and chalk a room measuring 8' x 8' on the floor.

In Groups of Two:

2. Framing a Wall:
o Frame a wall 96” in length using studs spaced 16” O/C.
o Use single top and bottom plates for the framing.

3. Door Installation:
o Center an 18.5” x 66” door within the wall.
o Install two 2x4 lintels to support the door, making sure to account for a 2.5” space for
the jambs and shim.

4. Wall Sheathing and Bracing:


o Square the framed wall and apply the appropriate structural sheathing.
o Stand the wall up and brace one side securely.
o The opposite group will brace the furthest corners of the wall to provide support.

5. Ceiling Joists Installation:


o Install ceiling joists spaced 24” O/C across the room, spanning from wall to wall.

6. Temporary Ceiling Support:


o Install a temporary support wall for the ceiling joists. Ensure the support has plates on
both the top and bottom for stability.

7. Door Opening Modification:


o Remove the existing door opening and frame a new opening to accommodate a 57” x
82” door.
o Ensure the new opening is supported by the appropriate sized lintel, as referenced in
Part 9, Table A-15.

8. Snow Load Consideration:


o The lintel sizing must also take into account the specified snow load of 0.9 kPa.
