9. Diagram 9.1(a) and Diagram 9.2(a) show two identical springs are compressed by two identical
trolleys at different compression distance. Diagram 9.1(b) and Diagram 9.2 (b) show the
position of both trolleys after the compression force is released due to the elasticity of springs.
(a) (i) What is the meaning of elasticity?

(ii) Using Diagram 9.1 and Diagram 9.2, compare the compression distance of the
springs, the distance travelled by the trolleys and the elastic potential energy stored
in the spring. Relate the compression distance of the spring with the distance
travelled by the trolley to make a deduction regarding the relationship between the
compression distance of the spring and the elastic potential energy stored in the
spring.

10. A student carries out an experiment to investigate a water wave phenomenon using a ripple
tank.

11. Total internal reflection occurs when light travels from a denser medium to less dense medium
and the angle of incidence is greater than the critical angle.
(a) What is the meaning of critical angle?

(ii) Use the equation in (b)(i) to explain why total internal reflection is easier to occur
