A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan about Adjectives

Lesson Title: Adjectives

Grade Level: High School

Subject: English

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson;

a) Students will be able to identify the different types of adjectives.


b) Students will be able to use comparative and superlative adjectives correctly.
c) Students will appreciate the importance of using adjectives to make their writing more interesting and
engaging.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a) Topic: Adjectives

b) Reference: Internet

c) Materials: Whiteboard, Marker, TV, Paper, and Laptop

d) Time Frame: 1 hour

e) Values Integration: Cooperation, Thorough Understanding, and Higher Self-Esteem.

III. PROCEDURES

Teacher’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

- The teacher will assign one student to lead the prayer.

2. Greetings

- The teacher will greet the students.

3. Classroom Management

- The teacher will ask them to pick up pieces of trash from the floor.

4. Checking of Attendance

- The teacher will then call the class monitor to check the attendance.

5. Classroom Rule

- The teacher will then introduce the classroom rules to ensure the discipline of students
during the discussion.

B. Review of Previous Lesson


- The teacher will call one student to state what was the past lesson. Afterwards, the
teacher will ask for an example and further understanding of the past lesson.

C. Introducing the Objectives

The teacher will flash the objectives into the monitor, for the students will know what to expect,
and what is expected of them.

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a) Students will be able to identify the different types of adjectives.


b) Students will be able to use comparative and superlative adjectives correctly.
c) Students will appreciate the importance of using adjectives to make their writing more interesting
and engaging.

D. Motivational

- The teacher will start the class by showing a series of images that depict different
objects.
- The teacher will then ask the students to describe each object using an adjective. After
each student has described an object, the teacher will then ask the class to determine
which of the objects was described the best. This will help them understand the
importance of using the right adjective.

E. Lesson Proper

The teacher will then begin the discussion on the topic about adjectives and its types, and after
each topic, the teacher will then give the students an opportunity to provide their own example.

- The teacher will start by the definition of Adjectives and relating it to the students.

Adjective – is a word that modifies a noun or a pronoun.


- The teacher then states the main kinds of Adjectives.

- The teacher will first begin with the first kind of adjective which is the definition and
example of Comparative Adjective.

Comparative Adjective – are used to compare two different people or things to each
other.

Ex: smaller, faster, bigger, and more expensive.

- The next definition and example to be provided will be Superlative Adjectives.

Superlative Adjective – are used to compare more than two people or things by
indicating which one is the most supreme or extreme.

Ex: smartest, loudest, biggest, and most impressive.

- The teacher will then discuss the next type of adverb which is the compound adjectives.

Compound Adjectives – re adjectives that are formed from multiple words, which are
usually connected by hyphens.

Ex: never-ending, cross-eyed, and run-of-the-mill.

Possessive Adjectives – are often used to express possession or ownership.

Ex: my, your, its, her, his, our, their, and whose.

Demonstrative Adjectives – are used to express relative positions in space and time.

Ex: this, that, these, and those.

Participial Adjectives - are adjectives that are based on participles, which are words
that usually end in -ed or -ing and derive from verbs.

Ex: amazing, impressed, and fascinating.

Interrogative Adjectives - are adjectives that are used to ask questions.

Ex: what, which, and whose.

F. Generalization

- The teacher will then summarize the key points of the lesson and emphasize the
importance of using adjectives to improve writing.

G. Evaluation

- After the discussion, the teacher will then give the students their evaluation which is
equivalent to 30 points.

I. Identify the type of adjective used and underline the word in the following sentences: (8 pts)

a. The cake is sweeter than the cookies.

b. This is the most delicious food I've ever tasted.

c. What is your favorite color?


d. She has a three-year-old son.

II. Rewrite the following sentences using a comparative or superlative adjective: (20 pts)

a. The book is interesting.

b. She is a tall girl.

c. The apple is sweet.

d. The movie was good.

e. The test was difficult.

f. The dog is fast.

g. The car is expensive.

h. The boy is smart.

i. The dress is pretty.

j. The house is big.

H. Abstraction

- The teacher will then discuss the importance of using adjectives in writing. Explain that
using descriptive adjectives can make writing more interesting and engaging. Provide
examples of how adjectives can improve writing.

I. Analysis

- The teacher will then provide examples of each type of adjective and ask students to
identify the type.

1. We moved to a cheaper apartment. (Comparative)


2. Adrian is the fastest member of our team. (Superlative)
3. My happy-go-lucky cousin loved our trip to Cebu. (Compound)
4. That is my bag. (Possessive)
5. This watch is cheaper than that one. (Demonstrative)
6. Micah was late for her swimming lesson. (Participial)
7. Whose turn is it to wash the dishes? (Interrogative)

J. Assignment

The teacher will then instruct the students to:

- Write a short story using at least one of each type of adjective. Encourage them to be

descriptive and creative in their writing.
