1. In what way can nanotechnology become a disruptive form of technology in our society? Provide
specific scenarios and explain.
-A scenario that shows how can nanotechnology become disruptive form of technology in our society is
the continuous production of different gadgets where it affects the business of other company.
For example, keypad cell phones are no longer popular because people tend to buy and choose what's
trendy. I once asked a child, "What would you choose to have, a keypad phone or an iPhone
touchscreen?" She answered, "I would love to have an iPhone." And that’s how I realized how some
things are disregarded due to technological innovation because when I was her age, I dreamed of having
a keypad phone. Another example is the old TVs style, which are no longer popular and seem outdated.
With the continuous innovation of gadgets because of the presence of nanotechnology, which brings
better features and physical appearance, older products are no longer given attention. People now
prefer more aesthetically pleasing items for their homes, like flat-screen TVs that save space and look
better. They choose smartphones, touch screens, and slim phones that are convenient and easy to carry.
Some businesses tend to close their business, and certain products are no longer in the market because
people don’t want to purchase it anymore.
2. What are the ethical considerations before employing nanotechnology or using the products of
nanotechnology?
-Safety of individual in terms of privacy and security
Nanotechnology must not be used to access the information of other people that may cause harm and
invade their privacy. For example, those little cameras or recorder being used to locate someone or any
device that may copy the information of an individual.
-Safety of individual in terms of healthcare
Employing nanotechnology in products such as food, health treatment, and skincare should be measure
to avoid its negative effect. For example, the chemo therapy, drug test, and blood test, people must
ensure that its procedure and equipment that will be use are safe and will not cause harm to individual.
- Safety of individual in using the products
-Provide information about the products, its ingredients, preservatives, and how it was manufactured.
Ensure that there is no hidden information about the products to avoid its side effects to the consumer.
