# ANARCHY CHESS ## THE OFFICIAL RULEBOOK !

[Anarchy Chess Logo] *Based on the legendary r/AnarchyChess saga by u/scurlocc* --- ##
INTRODUCTION Welcome to Anarchy Chess, where traditional chess meets organized chaos! This game pays homage to the infamous Reddit
chess saga that captured the imagination of thousands. In Anarchy Chess, players make both conventional chess moves and special "chaos
moves" that dramatically alter the game state. Remember: *When in doubt, embrace the chaos!* --- ## GAME COMPONENTS - Standard chess
set (board and pieces) - 20 Chaos Cards (see templates on page 6) - 1 six-sided die - 10 tokens or coins (to mark special spaces) - Optional:
Small objects to represent special entities (hotel, sauce, batteries, etc.) --- ## SETUP 1. Set up the chess board as in traditional chess 2. Shuffle
the Chaos Cards and place them face-down near the board 3. Each player rolls the die; highest roll chooses to play White or Black 4. Place the
tokens, die, and any special objects within reach --- ## TURN STRUCTURE On your turn, you must do ONE of the following: 1. **Make a legal
chess move** 2. **Play a "Chaos Move"** (see next page) 3. **Draw a Chaos Card** and follow its instructions *Note: After performing a Chaos
Move or playing a Chaos Card, announce "Anarchy reigns!" to signify the end of your turn.* --- ## GAME END CONDITIONS The game ends when
one of the following occurs: - A player checkmates the opponent's king - A player's king is "exiled" (removed from the board by a Chaos effect) -
The Chaos Beam strikes the king (see Special Rules) - Both players agree to a draw - The board becomes too chaotic to continue (mutual
agreement) --- ## CHAOS MOVES Each player may perform these special moves instead of a regular move: ### The Bongcloud (1/game) Move
your king to replace one of your pawns that hasn't moved yet. Announce "Hyper Accelerated Bongcloud!" when performing this move. ###
Promotion Anarchy (2/game) Promote any pawn that has reached the 5th rank or beyond to any piece of your choice (including special pieces
like "Battery" that moves like a queen but cannot capture). ### Dimension Shift (1/game) Move one of your pieces to any empty square on the
board by declaring "Dimension Shift to [square]". This piece cannot capture on this move. ### Take High Ground (1/game) Place one of your
pawns "above" the board (represented by placing it on a small object). While on high ground, this pawn cannot be captured except by another
piece that takes high ground. ### Form Alliance (1/game) Choose any opponent's piece that isn't a king. It now belongs to you, but you must
skip your next turn. ### River Creation (1/game) Designate any file (column) as a "river." Pieces crossing the river must spend an extra turn to
do so (they stop in the river for one turn). ### Fire Nation Attack (1/game) Choose up to 3 squares on the board. Any pieces on these squares
must move on the opponent's next turn or be "burned" (removed). --- ## CHAOS CARDS The deck contains 20 cards with the following effects:
1. **Time Travel**: Move any piece back to its starting position. 2. **Witch Trial**: Choose any piece. Roll the die. On 1-3, the piece is
"burned" (removed). On 4-6, it becomes "immortal" (cannot be captured for 3 turns). 3. **Quarantine**: Choose any square. Any piece within 2
squares of that position cannot move for 2 turns. 4. **Sex Offender Register**: Choose an opponent's bishop. It cannot move within 3 squares
of any pawn. 5. **Hotel Construction**: Place a "hotel" on any empty square. This square cannot be moved through or landed on. 6. **Duracell
Promotion**: Choose any pawn. It becomes a "battery" that can move like a queen but cannot capture. 7. **Summon Chick-fil-A Sauce**:
Sacrifice 3 of your pawns to place the "sauce" on any empty square. Any piece adjacent to the sauce gets an extra move each turn. 8.
**Opposite Day**: The next Chaos Card or Chaos Move played has its opposite effect (you decide what that means!). 9. **Knights' Date**: Two
knights (one from each player) meet on a square of your choice. Neither can move for 2 turns. 10. **Thanos Snap**: Roll the die. Remove that
many randomly chosen pieces from the board. 11. **Undercover FBI**: Place an "agent" on the board. If your opponent's king moves within 2
squares of it, you may reveal the agent and force the king to move back. 12. **Beam Charging** :Place a token on the board. In 5 turns, a
beam will strike that square and any piece on it is removed. 13. **Committee Meeting**: Both kings must move to the same square (without
capturing each other) for 1 turn. 14. **Sacrificial Explosion**: Remove one of your pieces and all pieces adjacent to it. 15. **COVID Outbreak**:
Choose a pawn. It and any piece it touches cannot move for 3 turns. 16. **Drug Cartel**: Choose one of your rooks. It can move like a queen for
3 turns. 17. **Lord Passant**: Choose any pawn. It can now move to any empty square on the board once. 18. **Prison Break**: Return any
previously removed piece to the board on any empty square. 19. **Flag Planting**: Mark any square as your territory. If your piece ends its move
there, it gets an extra move. 20. **Helicopter Rescue** :Save any piece from removal during the next 2 turns. *Note: Cards marked with
contribute to the Chaos Beam charging (see Special Rules).* --- ## SPECIAL RULES ### The Chaos Beam When 3 Chaos Cards with the " "
symbol have been played, the Chaos Beam charges. Roll the die to determine how many turns until it fires. When it fires, roll twice - once for
rank (1-8) and once for file (1-8) - and any piece on that square is removed from the game. ### Piece Immortality If a piece survives three
separate attempts to remove it from the board (through Chaos effects, not normal captures), it becomes "immortal" and cannot be removed for
the rest of the game. Mark it with a token or flip it upside down to indicate immortality. ### King Exile If a king leaves the board for any reason,
it is "exiled." An exiled king can return to the board after 5 turns on any empty square in its original territory (first 3 ranks), but if it cannot return
(all squares are occupied), the player loses. ### River Dynamics Pieces that end their turn in a river cannot be captured on the opponent's next
turn (they're "underwater"). --- ## OPTIONAL RULES ### Halftime Show After 25 moves by each player, pause the game for a "halftime show."
Each player presents a short chess-related performance. The winner (voted by spectators or agreed upon) gets to make two consecutive
moves. ### Mini Game If a player loses more than 5 pawns, they may start a "mini game" on the side with their captured pieces. Winning this
mini game allows them to return one piece to the main board. ### Trash Collection After every 10 turns, players must "clean up" the board by
removing all tokens, markers and special objects, then reapplying only those that are still active. ### Extended Universe Players may introduce
elements from other games (cards, dice, tokens) with mutual agreement. Each new element should have a clear rule for how it affects the
game. --- ## CHAOS CARD TEMPLATES *Print these pages to create your Chaos Cards deck* [Card templates would be shown here] --- ##
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS **Q: Can I capture my own pieces?** A: Only if a Chaos Card or Chaos Move specifically allows it. **Q: What
happens if contradictory effects occur?** A: The most recent effect takes precedence. **Q: Can I checkmate with a Chaos Move?** A: Yes!
Anarchy can still lead to victory. **Q: What if we can't agree on how a Chaos effect works?** A: Roll the die. Even = first interpretation, Odd =
second interpretation. --- ## FINAL NOTE Remember, the spirit of Anarchy Chess is creativity and fun. When disputes arise, resolve them with
humor and goodwill. The most chaotic game is the best game! *"In chess, as in anarchy, the possibilities are endless."* --- ##
