Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Introduction: Fiori Launchpad Designer

The Fiori Launchpad Designer is a web-based tool that is used to create Fiori Tiles (for custom apps) and Fiori Groups and
Catalogs. In this document will cover the creation of Fiori Tile Groups and Catalogs as well as the addition of the
following app types to these Fiori Tile Groups/Catalogs:
1.) SAP Transactional Apps
2.) SAP Factsheet Apps
3.) SAP Smart Business KPI Modeler Apps

In this exercise you will create a Fiori Tile Catalog and Fiori Tile Group. You will then add Fiori Tiles to these

Exercise Pre-requisites: Security Role for Fiori Launchpad Designer

In order to access the Fiori Launchpad Designer, your user ID should be assigned the following authorization role in the
frontend (Gateway) system: SAP_UI2_ADMIN_750 and SAP_UI2_ADMIN_731

Note: In productive environments, this authorization should be assigned to only those administrative users that will be
tasked with the creation/maintenance of SAP Fiori Tile Catalogs and Groups.

Part 1: Accessing the Fiori Launchpad Designer

1.) Login to the frontend (Gateway) system.
2.) Once a user has been assigned the role specified above, the “Launchpad Designer” will be added to his/her
“Favorites” section of the SAP Easy Access Menu (as per the screenshot below). To access the “Launchpad
Designer”, double click on the entry in the User Menu.

Note: Additionally, the Fiori Launchpad Designer could also be accessed via the following URL:
https://epkgwcd0.ernestpkg.com/sap/bc/ui5_ui5/sap/arsrvc_upb_admn/main.html?scope=CUST#

2
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
3.) A browser window will be opened. You’ll be taken to the Fiori Launchpad Designer logon page. Login using your
frontend (Gateway) credentials (User/Password).

4.) A screen similar to the following will then be presented. From this screen, Fiori Tile Catalogs can be created,
edited or displayed. You can also navigate to the Fiori Tile Groups maintenance.

3
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 2: Creating a Fiori Tile Catalog - Introduction

Fiori Tile Catalogs are used to assign tiles to a User Role. The tiles contained in the catalog are available for the user to
add to his/her Launchpad. Catalogs can contain more apps than are available in a group – If the catalog is available to a
user he/she can use the apps assigned to the catalog by adding them to his/her Launchpad. Tiles in the catalog can be
added to an existing group, or user can create his/her own groups to assign these tiles from the catalogs available.

The Launchpad Designer contains SAP provided Catalogs relevant to the applications installed in the system. It also
contains any custom Catalogs that have already been created by administrative users in the system.

Tile Catalogs can be created with or without reference to an existing Fiori Tile Catalog. It’s important to note that SAP
provided catalogs shouldn’t be edited as existing upgrades could overwrite any changes made. You’ll also want to keep
any content in the SAP provided Tile Catalogs so it’s available to be used as reference.

Part 2.1: Creating a Fiori Tile Catalog in Reference to Existing Catalog

1.) To create a New Fiori Catalog with Reference to an existing catalog, select the Catalog you’d like to copy and
drag it to the bottom of the screen. Options will be presented on the screen to “Pin”, “Delete” and “New Catalog
with References”. Drag and drop the selected Catalog to the “New Catalog with References” option.

4
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
2.) The “Copy Catalog” dialog box will be presented. Make entries in the “Title” and “ID” input fields. The title is
what will be displayed to Users as the name of the catalog. The “ID” is the technical identifier of the catalog.
 In the “Title” input field enter: SAP Catalog Title from step above – Copy
 In the “ID” input field enter: ZXY_SAPCATALOG_TITLE_COPY (where XY are your initials)

Record the appropriate information in section 2.1 of the “My Exercises” worksheet. Once you’ve recorded this
information and made the appropriate entries in the Dialog Box presented, select “Copy”.
3.) You’ll be returned to the main screen where the catalog you just copied is displayed. All of the content of
original catalog has been copied to the newly created catalog.

5
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 2.2: Creating a New Fiori Tile Catalog (without Reference to an Existing Catalog)
1.) In order to create a new catalog without reference to an existing catalog, select the “Create Catalog” option as
displayed below.

2.) The “Create Catalog” dialog window is displayed. Make sure he “Standard” radio button is enabled. Then, enter
in the “Title” and “ID” for the catalog being created.
 In the “Title” input field enter: XY Exercise 2 Catalog (where XY are your initials)
 In the “ID” input field enter: ZXY_EXERCISE2 (where XY are your initials)

Record the appropriate information in section 2.2 of the “My Exercises” worksheet. Once you’ve recorded this
information and made the appropriate entries in the Dialog Box presented, select “Save”.

6
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
3.) You’ll be returned to the main screen and the new SAP Fiori Tile Catalog just created is displayed. As per the
screenshot below, no content is included in the newly created catalog since it was created without reference to
an existing SAP Fiori Tile Catalog.

We’ll add tiles to this catalog later on in this document when we reach Part 3.2.

7

Part 3: Maintaining Fiori Tile Catalogs - Introduction

After a SAP Fiori Tile Catalog has been created, you can edit the title of the catalog, add/remove Fiori tiles and even
delete the Tile Catalog entirely.
Part 3.1: Updating Fiori Tile Catalog Titles
1.) To update the title of the Fiori Tile Catalog we first select the Catalog that we’re interested in updating. For our
scenario, please choose the Fiori Tile Catalog created and recorded in Section 2.1 of the “My Exercises”
worksheet. Once we’ve selected the catalog, we can choose the “Edit” icon to the right of the title.

2.) The “Edit Title” window will be displayed. Here you can update the title.
 In the “Title” input field change: SAP Catalog Title– Copy
to read: SAP Catalog Title– XY (where XY are your initials)
Record the updated title in section 3.1 of the “My Exercises” worksheet. Once you’ve recorded this
information and made the appropriate entries in the Dialog Box presented, select “Save”.

3.) You’ll be returned to the main screen and the title will be updated to reflect the change made.

Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 3.2: Adding Fiori Tiles to Tile Catalog

When adding an SAP Transactional App to a Fiori Tile Catalog, we can do so in reference to the Catalog delivered by SAP.
Before adding the app to the newly created catalog, we’ll need to know the Catalog name to use in reference. This
information can be found in the SAP Fiori App Library, under the “SAP Fiori Launchpad” part of the “Implementation
Information” section (shown below).

Record the Technical Catalog, Semantic Object and Action for the app you previously activated in section 3.2
of the “My Exercises” worksheet.

1.) Once we know the “Technical Catalog”, we can copy this into the Catalog search bar of the Fiori Launchpad
Designer. After typing in the catalog provided in the Fiori Apps Library documentation, hit “Enter”. The SAP
provided catalog will be displayed in the “Catalogs” tab.
9
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

2.) Select this Catalog to view the information provided by SAP. The screen below will be presented with all of the
Fiori Tiles and Target Mappings for the catalog selected.

3.) Select the tile for the app activated in Exercise 1, section 1 of the “My Exercises” worksheet to add to the
catalog and drag it on the screen. Two options will be presented on the screen – “Create Reference” and
“Delete”. Drag the tile to the “Create Reference” option and let go of the tile.

10
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

4.) The “Select Catalog” dialog window will be presented upon dragging the tile to the “Create Reference” option.
Type the Fiori Tile Catalog created and recorded in Section 2.2 of the “My Exercises” worksheet in the “Search”
bar and select it.

5.) Once you’ve selected the catalog from the list, you’ll be returned to the “Tile Catalog” screen and will receive a
message letting you know the tile was added to the selected catalog.

11
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

6.) Now that we’ve added the tile to the Catalog, we now must navigate to the “Target Mappings” to add the
navigational mapping required for the tile selected. (This is what enables users to actually navigate and access
the app after selecting the tile just added, without a corresponding target mapping if a user selects the tile, the
app will produce an error.) First, select the “Target Mapping” icon. A screen similar to the one below will be
displayed.

12
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
7.) Now, find the “Semantic Object” and “Action” recorded in Section 3.2 of the “My Exercises” worksheet in the
list provided and select it. Upon selection, the options on the bottom of the screen will become enabled. Select
the “Create Reference” option.

8.) The “Select Catalog” dialog window will once again be presented. Type the Fiori Tile Catalog created and
recorded in Section 2.2 of the “My Exercises” worksheet in the “Search” bar and select it.

13
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
9.) Once you’ve selected the catalog from the list, you’ll be returned to the “Target Mappings” screen a message
will be displayed letting you know the target mapping was added successfully to the selected catalog.

10.)We’ll now navigate to the catalog we added the tile/target mapping to so that we can confirm it’s been updated.
Type in the name of the Fiori Tile Catalog created and recorded in Section 2.2 of the “My Exercises” worksheet
in the “Search” bar and then hit “Enter”. Then, select the Catalog from the list. You’ll be taken to the Catalog
selected. The “Target Mapping” screen is displayed for the Tile Catalog selected. The “Semantic Object” and
“Action” recorded in Section 3.2 of the “My Exercises” worksheet should be displayed.

14
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
11.)Now, we’ll validate the tile was added successfully. Select the “Tiles” icon. The tile for the app activated in
Exercise 1, section 1 of the “My Exercises” worksheet should be displayed

12.)Now, repeat steps 1-11 of this exercise to add a second app to the Fiori Tile Catalog created and recorded in
Section 2.2 of the “My Exercises” worksheet. We’ll use this second app in a subsequent exercise.
Part 3.3: Removing Apps from Catalogs
1.) To remove tiles from a catalog, we can follow the same drag and drop method we’ve used to add a tile to the
Fiori Catalog. First, ensure that the Fiori Tile Catalog that was created and recorded in Section 2.2 of the “My
Exercises” worksheet is selected.

15
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
2.) Next, select the second Fiori tile added and recorded in Section 3.2b of the “My Exercises” worksheet and drag
it to another part of the screen. Two options will be presented, in this scenario drag the tile to the “Delete”
option.

3.) You’ll then receive a confirmation message asking if you want to remove the tile from the catalog. Select “OK”.

16
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
4.) You’ll then see a message on the screen that the tile has been removed and the tile is no longer available in the
catalog.

5.) We now need to navigate to the “Target Mapping” section to remove the corresponding target mapping for the
tile we just removed. Select the “Target Mapping” icon to navigate to the screen. Once there, select the
“Semantic Object” and “Action” recorded in Section 3.2b of the “My Exercises” worksheet. Now, the editing
options on the bottom of the screen will be enabled. Select the “Delete” option.

17
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
6.) A confirmation message will be presented. Select “OK” to delete the target mapping.

7.) You’ll be returned to the “Target Mapping” screen and will receive a message letting you know that the target
mapping has been deleted. You’ll notice that it is no longer displayed in the list.

Note: Even though you’ve removed the tile from the catalog, you’ll also have to remove the tile from any group
to which the tile had been added. If you don’t remove it from the group, users will still see a tile on the Fiori
Launchpad where the tile used to be – however, they’ll only see garbled text and will receive an error if they try
to access the tile. Therefore, I recommend removing tiles from a group before removing them from a catalog.

18
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 3.4: Deleting Tile Catalogs

1.) In this task, we’re going to delete the Fiori Tile catalog we copied and recorded in Section 2.1 of the “My
Exercises” worksheet. Type in the name of the Fiori Tile Catalog copied and recorded in Section 2.1 of the “My
Exercises” worksheet in the “Search” bar and then hit “Enter”. Then, select the Catalog from the list. You’ll be
taken to the Catalog selected.

2.) Select the “Catalog” from the list on the left and drag it toward the bottom of the screen. Three options will
appear – “Pin”, “New Catalog with References” and “Delete”. Drag the catalog to the “Delete” option

19
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
3.) A “Confirmation” message will be displayed, confirming you want to delete the selected Catalog. Select “OK” to
remove the catalog.

4.) The Fiori Tile Catalog will be deleted.

20
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 4: Creating a Fiori Tile Group - Introduction

Fiori Tile Groups make tiles visible on a user’s Launchpad. Thus when they login, they see the tiles that have been added
to the groups that they’ve been assigned. Users can remove (if enabled) and add apps to groups. In order for a Fiori Tile
Group to be visible on a user’s Launchpad he/she must be assigned the Fiori Tile Group via a role.

The Fiori Launchpad Designer includes all of the SAP provided Tile Groups for the apps installed in the system as well as
any Groups that have been created by a system administrator. As with the Fiori Tile Catalogs, the SAP Provided Tile
Groups should not be edited but should be kept as is to be used as reference.

Part 4.1: Accessing Fiori Tile Groups

1.) In order to view the Fiori Tile Groups that exist in the Launchpad Designer, select the “Groups” tab. A screen
similar to the one below will be presented.

21
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 4.2: Creating Fiori Tile Groups

1.) Unlike creating Fiori Tile Catalogs, Fiori Tile Groups can only be created manually, without reference to an
existing group. To do this, select the “Create Group” option as shown below.

2.) The “Create Group” dialog window is displayed. The “Title” is what will be displayed on the Fiori Launchpad
above the tiles in the group. The “ID” is a technical identifier. Enter the following values:
 In the “Title” input field enter: XY1 Exercise 2 (where XY are your initials)
 In the “ID” input field enter: ZXY1_EXERCISE2
 Ensure the “Group Personalization” option is enabled
Record the appropriate information in section 4.2a of the “My Exercises” worksheet. Once you’ve recorded
this information and made the appropriate entries in the Dialog Box presented, select “Save”.

Note: The “Group Personalization” option if selected will allow users to add, remove, or move the tiles available in the
group on the Fiori Launchpad. If this option is not selected, then user will not be able to add/remove/move tiles in the
group. (If user selects the “Reset Group” option on the Fiori Launchpad, the tiles maintained in the Group through the
Fiori Launchpad will be presented again for the user, thus they’re not lost/updated forever).

22
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
3.) Upon hitting “Save”, the Fiori Tile Group will be created and you’ll be returned to the main screen.

4.) Now, repeat steps 1-3 of this exercise to add a second Fiori Group and record this New Fiori Group in Section
4.2b of the “My Exercises” worksheet. We’ll use this second group in a subsequent exercise.
 In the “Title” input field enter: XY2 Exercise 2 (where XY are your initials)
 In the “ID” input field enter: ZXY2_EXERCISE2
 Ensure the “Group Personalization” option is enabled

23
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 5: Maintaining Fiori Tile Groups

Just like with the Fiori Tile Catalog, you can edit the title of the Fiori Group, add new tiles, and/or remove tiles that are
no longer needed in the Fiori Group.
Part 5.1: Updating Tile Group Title
1.) First, select the Fiori Tile Group we created and recorded in Section 4.2a of the “My Exercises” worksheet.
Select the “Edit” option next to the group name.

2.) You’ll receive the following “Edit Group” dialog. Here you can rename the title of the group. You can also choose
to enable/disable the “Group Personalization” option.
 Update the Group Title to read: Exercise2 – XY (where XY are your initials)
Record the appropriate information in section 5.1 of the “My Exercises” worksheet. Once you’ve recorded this
information and made the appropriate entries in the Dialog Box presented, select “Save”.

24
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
3.) You’re returned the “Group” main screen and the title has been updated.

Part 5.2: Adding Tiles to Groups

1.) First, ensure the Fiori Tile Group we created and recorded in Section 4.2a of the “My Exercises” worksheet is
still selected. Next, to add a tile to this group, select the “Add Tile” option.

2.) You’ll be taken to a new screen similar to the one shown below. Here, you can select the Catalog which has the
tile that you’d like to add to the Group by selecting the Value Help option as shown below.
25
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

3.) A list of the catalogs available are displayed. Here you can scroll down or enter the catalog title in the “Search”
bar to find and select the Fiori Tile Catalog we updated and recorded in Section 3.1 of the “My Exercises”
worksheet.

4.) Once you’ve selected the catalog, you’ll be returned to the screen and all of the tiles that are a part of the
catalog selected are displayed. Add the tile to the group by selecting the “+” under the tile.

26
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

5.) You’ll see this “+” icon is updated to a green “checkmark” icon. This means the tile has been added to the group.
In addition, a message will be presented letting you know the tile was added successfully.

6.) To return to the group, select the “back” icon.

27
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

7.) You’ll see the group now has the tile displayed.

8.) Repeat steps 1-7 above to add the Fiori App recorded in Section 3.2b of the “My Exercises” worksheet to the
group. We’ll leverage this additional app in the following exercise.

28
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 5.3: Removing Tiles from Groups

1.) To remove tiles from Groups we once again employ the drag and drop method. First, ensure you’re in the Fiori
Tile Group we created and updated in Section 5.1 of the “My Exercises” worksheet. Select the Fiori app added
to the group and recorded in Section 3.2b of the “My Exercises” worksheet (Note: this is the app you just
added). A trash can will be displayed in the bottom right hand corner.

2.) You’ll notice that the Trash Can in the corner of the screen gets bigger once you’ve dragged the tile to the
“Trash”. You can let go.

29
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
3.) You’ll receive a message the tile has been removed. You’ll now only see one tile in the group.

Note: As explained in the section above, when removing tiles from groups/catalogs, the tile should be removed from
the Group first. This will make it less likely that the user will be impacted by the change.

30
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 5.4: Deleting Tile Groups

1.) Just as when we deleted the Tile Catalog, when deleting a tile group, we also employ the drag and drop method.
Select the Fiori Tile Group we created and recorded in Section 4.2b of the “My Exercises” worksheet.

2.) Then, drag it toward the bottom left corner of the screen. As in the section above, a trash can appears. Once
again, let go when you’ve gotten it to the corner (you’ll know because the trash can section gets larger).

3.) You’ll receive a message asking you to confirm the deletion of the group. Select “OK”.
31
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

4.) You will receive a message that the group was deleted.

32
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer

Part 6: Transporting Tile Catalogs/Groups – INFORMATIONAL ONLY

You can transport Fiori Tile Catalogs and Groups throughout the Frontend landscape so that you do not have to re-do
these steps in each of these clients. To do so, you’ll need an existing customizing/workbench transport. Since this is an
active DEV environment, to reduce the number of transports that should not be transported, the following steps are
only for your information and are not to be done in the system.
Part 6.1: Transporting Tile Catalogs/Groups
1.) On both the “Groups” and “Catalogs” tabs, when a Catalog/Group is selected, you’ll notice a “Gear” button in
the upper right hand corner of the main screen. Select this icon.

2.) A message is presented. In this screen, disable the “None” option. You can now use the dropdown option to
select the transport that you created for this purpose. Once you’ve selected the appropriate transport, select
“OK”. The Fiori Tile Catalog/Group is now included in the selected transport.

Next Steps - Exercise 3: SAP Fiori User Roles

 In order for users to access the newly created Fiori Tile Catalogs/Groups, they must first be assigned to their
user ID in the frontend system. This can be done by adding these to the “Menu” tab in one of the roles the user
is assigned. Alternately, we can also create a brand new role with this information to assign users.
33
Exercise 2: Fiori Launchpad Designer
 In addition, just because a user is assigned a tile in the Fiori Launchpad, they won’t have be able to successfully
use this tile if they do not have the appropriate app services to their user ID in both the frontend and/or
backend servers.
Instructions for the Security Role requirements discussed in the points above will be covered in the following exercise.
