As the East Indians settled in the Caribbean, their food began to shape the region's culinary
culture. The air filled with the enticing scents of curries, rotis, and hot chutneys, captivating the

bhajans are just two examples of how the East Indian musical legacy influenced both
contemporary and traditional Caribbean music in the area. People would be drawn in by the
catchy beats to sway their hips and participate in lively dance styles like the joyful chutney
dance or the elegant steps of traditional Indian dance.
