FLOWERS FOR MOTHER
This is a story about Apollinaire Mabini.
One day Pule's mother was waiting for her children to come home from school.
After a while she heard some voices from the yard. She was glad her sons were already
home.
"Mother! Mother!" called one of her sons. "Pule will be a little late. He said he has
something to get for you."
A little later Pule came. He had some flowering plants with him.
"These are for you, Mother," Pule said. " ! got them for you along the way.
I know you love flowers." How thoughtful Pule was! Instead of getting angry, his
mother felt very happy.

FEEDING A BIG FAMILY
Align Nada called her six children for breakfast. She served them all the fried fish
and rice she cooked. When the children sat at the table and began to eat, the food was
finished in a short time.
"Mother, is there some more rice?" asked Pedro. He had eaten slowly and had
taken only a small amount of rice.
Mother brought the scorched rice from the pot.
"This is the only rice left, Pedro," she said. "Eat it."
"But Mother, you will have none to eat," Pedro said.
Mother could not speak. There was little food to cook and she had six children. It
was hard to feed a big family.
