1 a) State four reasons why the Bible had to be compiled into its present form by the
early Christian. ( 8Marks) .

 The eyewitness of Jesus Christ were being killed


 In order to prevent information from getting lost
 Due to the expansion of the church / increased number of believers/ who
needed material to refer to
 To counteract false teachings /teachers who are confusing the believers
 To ensure that same doctrines /beliefs were being taught to all Christians
 To reach out the Jew in Diaspora/Gentiles spread
 To preserve an orderly account of Biblical themes /avoid distortion

c) State six challenges that Prophet Elijah faced in Israel (6 marks).

 There was widespread idolatry and apostasy among the Israelites


 There was corruption and injustice as people rejected the covenant way of life
 There was religious persecution and hostility (Jezebel had put to death some
prophets of Yahweh) and those who escaped with their lives went into hiding
 The people had abandoned they worship of Yahweh and practiced syncretism
hence turning away from the covenant way of life
 He faced opposition and even threats in his life from Jezebel and Ahab
 There were false prophets of Baal and Asherah who were brought to Israel by
Jezebel to promote false religion
 He had to face Ahab and challenge him for misleading the people
 Convincing the people that it is Yahweh who was the true God
 Had to prove to Israel that he was the true prophet of Yahweh
 He had to endure hardships in wilderness

d) What lessons can Christians learn about social justice from the story of Naboth’s
vineyard (6 marks)

 Christians should not use their position in leadership to acquire wealth falsely
 Christians should protect the poor against corrupt leaders
 They should safeguard property received through inheritance /according to the law
 They should not be misled by their friends /relatives to go against the law
 Christians should execute justice /protect rights/freedom of citizens/ not kill
 They should condemn all forms of injustices in the society
 Christians should champion/fight for the rights of the weak in the society
 There is punishment for those who exploit the poor/others
 Christians should be remissive /repentant
 Christians should expose /report corrupt leaders

2a) Outline the activities carried out by the Israelites on the night of the Passover.

 Every man chose a lamb or a young goat for his family


 The chosen animal was slaughtered
 Blood was put on the two-door post of the house
 The slaughtered animal was to be roasted
 The Israelites ate the unleavened bread/ bitter herbs
 They ate while fully dressed for the journey in a hurry
 They stayed indoors till morning
 They burnt all the leftovers of the meal
b) Explain the conditions given to the Israelites during the renewal of the Sinai
covenant. (7 Marks)
 To obey what God commanded them
 Not to make any treaty with those who lived in the land where they were going

3 a) Outline what Angel Gabriel revealed about John Baptist when he announced his

b) Describe the incident in which Jesus forgave the sinful woman in Luke 7:36-50 (8

 Jesus had been invited by a Pharisee for dinner /Simon /Jew


 While He was at the table a sinful woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment
 She stood at Jesus; feet weeping/wet his feet with tears
 She used her hair to wipe the feet of Jesus
 She kissed the feet of Jesus
 She then anointed the feet of Jesus with the ointment
 The Pharisee who had invited Jesus questioned in his heart whether Jesus was
a prophet
 Jesus knew the thoughts of Simon /told him the parable of the creditor and the
two debtors
 Jesus asked Simon who of the two debtors would love the creditors more
 Simon said the debtor who had more would love the creditor more
 He told Simon that the woman had shown much love because her many sins had
been forgiven
 Jesus told the woman that her sins had been forgiven
 The other guests began to question who Jesus was to have the power to forgive sins
 Jesus told the woman that her faith had saved her
 He told her to go in peace

c) Outline the lessons that Christians learn from the incident when Jesus went to pray
with his disciples on the Mount of Olives
(6 Marks)

 They should be prayerful


 They should put God will first /desire God ‘s will to be done in their lives
 Prayer helps one to overcome temptations /difficult situations
 They depend on God for strength and support
 They should encourage others in their weaknesses
 They should be ready to suffer for God’s sake
 They should be watchful /alert for the enemy strikes when they least expect it
 They need to have close friends/ associates that one can lean on

4 a) Explain what the teaching of Jesus about the vine and the branches in John 15:1-10

reveal about the unity of believers. (8 Marks)

 God is the vine dresser/Jesus is the true vine


 The followers of Jesus/the Christians are the branches.
 Christians are related to God through Jesus
 The unfaithful Christians are the unfruitful branches which are cut away/destroyed
 The faithful Christians/fruitful branches are pruned so as to produce more fruit
 Christians can only bear fruits /do good things if they remain united to Christ
 Through Christ all Christians are joined to one another.
 Christians should rely on God for all providence
 Love is [passed on to the Christians from god through Christ
 Christians should observe/keep Gods commandments.
b) Give reasons why prophet Amos was against the way the Israelites worshipped
God (7 Marks)

 They gave empty sacrifices which did not reflect holy lives
 They practical syncretism
 There was no sincerity in worship/hypocrisy
 They made idols/worship/hypocrisy
 They made idols /worshipped idols
 They built many high places of worship for idols
 They misused the temple by feasting/drinking
 They refused to listen to the prophets of god/listened to false prophets

c) State the relevance of Prophet Amos teaching on election of Israel to Christians

 By listening to their confession. They should confess Jesus as Lord


 By analyzing the kind of teaching they profess. The teaching should be about
Jesus Christ/Christian doctrine
 By examining their life to know whether they possess/ show the fruit of Holy
Spirit
 By observing their behavior. The behavior should not contradict the teaching of
Jesus Christ/ be role models
 When the Christians notice the victorious life such people over temptations /works of
the flesh
 If such persons do not use the gift of the Holy Spirit for selfish gains/enrich
themselves

5 a) Explain the significance of the symbolic act of buying land by prophet
Jeremiah. (8 marks)

 It showed the people of Judah still had a future despite the coming crisis/Judas
will regain freedom after congesting
 It was an assurance that the people would be restored back to their homeland/reclaims
their land
 It demonstrated that the people would resume their normal lives/construct homes
/cultivate land/own property
 Divine judgment was not an end to itself
 Restoration was to take place at God’s own time/God was to determine when
the people would be restored back.
 The people had to wait patiently for their return from exile.
 It showed that God was loving/faithful/was to keep his promise of
restoration/bring them back to their ancestral land.
 It made them feel secure/they were not to lack anything.
b) In what ways did Prophet Jeremiah suffer while carrying out his work in Judah?

 There was a plot to kill prophet Jeremiah by his people at Anathoth


 He was anguished /tormented by the prosperity of the wicked
 Jeremiah suffered loneliness/isolation
 He was in constant conflict with the leaders
 He was mocked and ridiculed by the people
 Jeremiah was hated by the people of Judah
 He was arrested/chained/imprisoned
