CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Bullying has existed in all communities for a long time ago. It is considered as a
common form of violence in Schools. Various studies indicated that bullying makes
schools to be unsafe places for students as it contributes to the belief that some
schools are no longer safe for students. Bullying is deemed a very serious problem in
academic setting in all parts of the performance of the world. It has a negative impact
on academic performance and behavior of students.
Bullying has existed in all communities for a long time. Bullying exists either in
developed or developing societies. Bullying starts at an early age. Child starts to build
an initial concept of bullying. Then, it starts increasing and continues until it reaches
its peak in the basic phase stage (4,5 and 6) it continues in higher basic stage and
then starts to decline at secondary level.
Bullying is considered a common form of violence in school. Bullying is a major
problem around the globe. Bullying is observed race, gender, ethnicity, and
socioeconomic status. Bullying is no longer considered as a normal rite of passage but
a primary public health problem. This big problem is part of an act of intentionally
harming someone, verbally, psychologically, or physically. Bullying is often repeated
over time and involves an Imbalance of Power.
Bullying is a pervasive issue that affects individuals all ages, leaving lasting
scars on their emotional and psychological well-being. It is a complex phenomenon
with multifaceted causes and Consequences, demanding a comprehensive
understanding to effectively address its impact.
Bullying is a pervasive issue in schools worldwide, and its consequences extend
beyond emotional and social wealth being to significantly affect academic
achievement. The findings will contribute to better understanding of the challenges
faced by students experiencing bullying and inform the development of effective
intervention strategies to mitigate its negative effects on academic success.

and succeed in school.

Significance of study
This study aims to identify the factors of Bullying in Sampaguita National High
School in the school year 2025 that can give remedies to the lives of everyone and
benefit to the following.
STUDENT: Can be benefit is this study because it will know how to avoid bullying and
students will know what the negative impact on students who has been a victim of
bullying.
TEACHERS: It can also benefit teachers because it will awareness and it can cause
teachers to present campaigns to stop bullying furthermore.
PARENTS: The parents can benefit in this study because will make any parents to
know that their child been bullied of school so that the parents can confront the child
to confess that he/she is a victim of bullied before the worst outcome can happen like
student taking his/her own life.
ADMINISTRATORS AND STAFFS: This study would help them organized enrollment
procedure and different transactions made in their respective areas.
RESEARCHERS: Research on bullying is a crucial endeavor to understand the issue,
identify risk factors and explore effective interventions.
PEERS: Learning about bullying empowers peers to become active bystanders,
intervening to stop bullying and support victims.
Scope and delimitation
The study aims to identify the impact of bullying on Student Academic Performance.
This is conducted at Sampaguita National High School. The study is limited only to the
Senior High School Grade 11 EIM strand. To be conducted in 2025 at Sampaguita
National High School Gymnasium. Our goal is to get Bullying which is through the
emotional and psychological distress. It causes making it difficult for students to
focus, learn, and participate in class.
Definition of terms
VERBAL BULLYING: This involves using words to hurt or intimidate someone including
name calling, insults, threats, teasing, and spreading rumors.
PHYSICAL BULLYING: This involves using physical force to harm someone including
hitting, kicking, shoving, tripping and taking someone’s belongings.
SOCIAL BULLYING: This involves excluding someone from a group. Spreading rumors
about them or manipulating social situations to make them feel isolated and rejected.
CYBER BULLYING: This involves using electronic communication to bully someone
including sending mean messages, posting embarrassing pictures or video online.
RELATIONAL BULLYING: This involves damaging someone’s relationship with others,
such as by spreading rumors gossiping, or making up stories to turn people against
them.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Bullying can lead to feelings of anxiety, depression, and fear, which may affect
concentration, absenteeism, and overall performance in the classroom (Glew et al,
2015). These emotional disturbances can impede learning and cause students to
disengage from these studies. Furthermore, the fear of being bullied can lead to
avoidance of school and reduced participation in academic activities.
Several studies have explored the mechanisms underlying the relationship between
bullying and academic performance. One study found that bullying can lead to
increased stress and anxiety, which can in turn negatively impact academic
performance (Joxonen et. Al., 2016). Another study found that bullying can lead to
decreased self-esteem and self-confidence, which can also negatively impact
academic performance (Sapouna et. al., 2016).
Victims of bullying often exhibit changes in behavior such as increased absenteeism
tardiness, and in severe cases, school dropouts. These behavioral changes disrupt the
learning pattern and can lead to poor academic performance. Studies in 2017
highlighted the importance of addressing these behavioral issues through targeted
interventions (Johnson and Johnson, 2017).
According to a study published in the Journal of Educational Psychology,
approximately 20% of students in the United States being bullied at school (Nansel
et,. al., 2018).
Similarly, a study conducted in the Philippines found that 22% of high school students
reported Experiencing bullying (Lapid of al., 2018).
Several studies have explored the mechanisms underlying the relationship between
bullying and academic performance. One study found that bullying can lead to
increased stress and anxiety, which can in turn negatively impact academic
performance (Jovonen et., al.,2018). Another study found that bullying can lead to
decreased self-esteem and self-confidence, which can also negatively impact
academic performance (Sapouna et al., 2018).

by such experiences. Furthermore, absenteeism and dropout rates were also found to
be higher among bullied students, further exacerbating the decline in academic
performance.
This paper examines the relationship between bullying and student academic
performance in year (2021). The study focuses on the psychological and emotional
effects of bullying on students’ ability to learn effectively aiming to highlight the
importance of creating a safe and supportive school environment.

distress, social isolation and decreased academic achievement. This literature review
aims to examine the current research on the impact of bullying on students’ academic
performance, with a focus on studies conducted in or around (2024).
According to a study published in the journal of Educational Psychology approximately
27% of students in the United States reported being bullied at school (Nansel et.,
al.,2024). Similarly, a study conducted in the United Kingdom Found that 30% of
students reported experiencing bullying (Hertz et al 2024).
REVIEW OF RELATED STUDY
A study published in the British Journal of Educational Psychology examinated the link
between bullying at age 9 and numeracy/literacy achievement at age 15. The
researchers found that bullying significantly impacted academic performance,
particularly in the areas of numeracy and literacy. They concluded that psychological
difficulties at age of 13 partially mediated the relationship between bullying and
academic achievement.
Students’ Perception of School Bullying and its Impact on Academia Performance
(2015). A longitudinal study conducted in Argentina found ho significant association
between bullying and academic performance among students aged 9 to 12. Despite
high rates of bullying, academic grades improved over the school year suggesting
that factors other than bullying might play a more critical role in academic success.
Bullying and Its Effect on Student’s Academic Performance in Australia (2016). This
essay highlighted the psychological and academic consequences of bullying, nothing
that student s who are bullied and experience a decline in academic performance due
to anxiety, depression and decreased motivation. Victims often miss school, leading to
further academia decline.
In 2018, the impact of bullying on students’ academic performance was a significant
focus for educators, policymakers and researchers. Studies from this year provided
deeper insights into how bullying affects students’ ability to succeed academically.
2022, Research showed that cyberbullying can have a significant impact on student’s
psychosocial well-being and academic performance, with girls being more likely to
experience cyberbullying than boys.
CHAPTER 3
Research Methodology
Research Design
The primary objective of this qualitat study is to explore the personal experiences and
perceptions of students who have expenticed bullying and how these experiences
affect their academic performance.
Locale of the Study
The study is conducted at Sampaguita National School which is located in
Sampaguita, Solana, Cagayan. This placed is Selected For investigating the prevalent
type of bullying that is encountered by a G-11 & 12 EIM student.
Sample and Sampling technique
The respondence of this study is the senior high school G-11 & 12 EIM student of
Sampaguita National High School. As of 37 students in the G-11 EIM and 40 students
in G-12 EIM as a total of 77 stutents in the EIM strand.

assignments?
What is the prevalence of bullying among G11 & G12 EIM students at Sampaguita
National High School?
Do students who experience bullying show a higher rate of absenteeism or tardiness
compared to their non bullied peers?

Data Gathering Procedure
The objective of this research is to assess how bullying affects the Academic
Performance, engagement, and mental well-being of G11 & G12 students enrolled in
the EIM strand in senior high school. The researchers will ask permission from the
principal’s office. The researchers immediately explain the confidentiality of the data
gathered to the respondents of the study.
Data analysis
To analyze the impact of bullying on the Academic Performance of G11 & G12
students in the (EIM) Electrical Installation and Maintenance program, The following
data analysis plan is proposed incorporating insights from the search results.
