Introduction to MXenes
MXenes are a class of two-dimensional inorganic compounds, typically consisting of carbides,
nitrides, or carbonitrides of transition metals.
They are derived from layered MAX phases, where M stands for an early transition metal, A is an
A-group element (mostly IIIA or IVA), and X is carbon or nitrogen.
Discovered in 2011 by researchers at Drexel University, MXenes have attracted significant attention
due to their unique combination of metallic conductivity and hydrophilic nature.
