BUS 110 – Introduction to Business

Prospective Employers

​ A potential employer is Anza Mortgage Insurance Company, which focuses on

mortgage insurance. It is part of a holding company wholly owned by Anza Holdings.

The company was licensed in North Carolina on December 31, 2023, as a mortgage

insurance company and initially capitalized with a capital contribution receivable from

Anza Holdings I LLC totaling $10,953,000. The Company issued $1,095,300 in common

capital stock and recorded $9,857,700 in paid-in and contributed surplus.

Josh Birnbaum is 100% the head of the holding company, while Anza Mortgage

Insurance company is further down the chain(ncdoi.gov,(n.d.)). This company is suited

for what I wanted to do as I am looking for careers and finance and risk management

which this company perfectly offers and has a wider range of job openings as well. A

second prospective company is PwC(Price Waterhouse Coopers), which specializes in

assurance, advisory, and tax services. It is organized as a network of multiple firms

under one multinational corporation. The company makes revenue ranging from 100M$

to 500M$. They have around 370,000 professionals who have orchestrated their

company due to its size, as it has 149 firms across the world in different

nations(PwC,(n.d.)). This would be a great company to work under due to its wide

reach, vast positions, and wide range of financial positions in the company. Bank of

America is another excellent company that would be excellent to work under. The

company specializes in banking and has an ownership structure of multiple

shareholders. The company was founded in 1903, making about 122 years since the

company has been operating. There are 1,432 jobs offered by Bank of America and
they serve 4 million clients(Bank Of America,(n.d.)). This job is a bright outlook as it is

very widespread and in a sense popular as it is a well-known company that serves

many people across America.

Prospective Career Opportunities

​ Director of operational risk at Anza Mortgage Insurance Company is a

prospective career pathway. To apply for the job you must need a Bachelor’s degree in

a Finance/ Business field. There is also a minimum of 10 years of risk management

experience to apply for the job. The minimum skills needed for the job are high-level

analytical skills, enterprising qualities, excellent communication, in-depth knowledge,

and the ability to deal with fast-paced environments(Indeed,(n.d.)Anza). This job would

be a good suit for me as I am looking towards entering the field in finance. I am

currently in an Arts Associates pathway, and I am planning to complete it to get an

overall base in which on top of that I get a finance CTE at CPCC. This falls into this

perfectly as I will be an all-rounded person for this job allowing me to adapt and bend to

whatever the job may need, which I will need to develop further as I enter college,

however, my point is that I will have a strong base to begin with I can grow from to

conform to this job. Being a finance account manager at PwC would be another great

option. There aren’t many requirements to apply as you need 4 years of high school and

4 years of accounting/finance experience at PwC(Indeed,(n.d.)PwC). This follows my

plan on completing a CTE as it would support the requirement of gaining experience as

I would be accepted to more internships and part-time jobs due to the CTE, resulting in

more experience. This factor would also set me apart from others who are applying,

putting aside the fact that I am planning to complete a master's degree in business or
finance. Bank of America’s position as sr quantitative finance analyst is another shining

path. To apply one must need a master's degree in the field of finance or equivalent

work experience. This is accompanied by many skills fulfilling the qualities of

enterprising and analytical(Indeed(n.d.)Bank of America). This would fit my prospects

and my qualities as an individual. I am an enterprising and outgoing person who tries to

portray himself to others, which is supported by a Career Coach which I will elaborate

further on afterward.

Learning and Higher Educational Pursuits

Learning

​ 2 key business functions that resonated with me were business ethics and

managing small businesses. Ethics and morality are very important in the world of

humanity that we live in, inevitably making it important in the world of business. Equality,

justice, and truth are vital in business and respect must be throughout. A fair chance

should be given to everyone and without the system of business would collapse to

injustice; this all applies to everyone under the umbrella of business without exclusion.

This affects employees in the internal aspect and customers in the external aspect.

Small businesses are a very important part of the system of business, as they make up

the majority of the system. Dealing with small businesses however is not an easy task,

as there are many components in managing a business. Internally small businesses

affect the entire network as they are a vital part that holds it together. Externally it affects

society and the consumer world as it opens many different options for different services

and products.

Higher Educational Pursuits

catalysts to the network business. They go hand in hand in creating success, with also

involving other factors of personal finance, economics, marketing, etc. This connects to

my job as I am looking to work under a business that respects these functions and me

being able to play an important role in the management of a business; making a

valuable difference to the company. Using the Career Coach tool I found an Accounting

and Finance program offered by CPCC, which would help me gain a deeper

understanding of finance and develop my roots for development into more advanced

fields within finance. (Career Coach –Browse Programs, (n.d.)). To strengthen my future

pursuits I am going to work towards completing either a Science or Arts Associate at

CPCC. Then from there on forward work towards getting a Master’s degree in finance at

a good college in-state.

Personal Reflection

​ I am more of a kinesthetic and logical learner. I can never really learn verbally, as

I always feel like words go through one ear and go out the other. I always need to do the

work or apply the concept myself to truly get a grasp of the concept. When reaching

complex concepts I need a sense of logic as well to further deepen my understanding

as I do not want holes in my understanding, which would contradict my curious

personality. This learning style will further support my pursuit through CPCC as I can

use this understanding of myself and start taking notes and communicating further with

my professors.

​ My three most prominent traits are enterprising, conventional, and

investigative((Career Coach Assessment, (n.d.)). The enterprising trait suggests a

roles. This characteristic is accompanied by considerable self-confidence and a

continual desire to progress in my endeavors. The conventional aspect signifies an

organized and methodical approach to work. I prefer to operate within established

parameters and base my actions on factual information, allowing me to navigate my

surroundings ethically. Furthermore, my investigative trait is characterized by a

pronounced curiosity; I actively seek to question and expand my understanding of the

unknown. Weaknesses in my traits are not being as creative and not breaking

boundaries/thinking outside of the box. This is a quality that I will need to develop

further on, and I think that the solution is only time and effort in making this change to

become more all-rounded. According to my traits people usually take manager or leader

positions due to confidence, composure, practicality, and adaptability to changes(Career

Coach – Browse Careers, (n.d.)).

​ Three things that I can do to improve my viability as a candidate are to create a

professional resume, hone my current basic skills that I have, and gain experience. A

resume is important in portraying your accomplishments. Projection of oneself is

essential when applying for jobs, so developing a professional resume is vital.

Developing the skills that I have will help me in the future. Everything starts from the

basics and if iI can make that start strong it will help me advance to greater technical

heights. Lastly, gaining experience would help me apply to a wider range of jobs. Many

jobs have experience as a requirement. This also helps give confidence to the

employers that I know what I am doing.
