VI. Procedure
Project Procedure: Fabrication of Grill Box
Step 1: Material Distribution
Begin by dividing one large plain sheet into 10 equal-sized
sections. Each member of the group should receive one
section to individually construct their grill box.
Step 2: Initial Measurement
Using a ruler and appropriate measuring tools, measure
the plain sheet based on the dimensions provided in the
reference figure (see diagram above).
Ensure accuracy to maintain consistency across all grill
boxes.
Step 3: Pattern Layout
After measurements are complete, use a scriber to
carefully mark the layout of the grill box directly onto the
plain sheet. This layout will serve as a cutting and drilling
guide.
Step 4: Marking Drill Points
Once the pattern is marked, locate the small circles
indicated in the figure. Use a center punch and hammer to
make indentations at each of these circle locations. These
punch marks will help guide the drill bit in the next step.
Step 5: Drilling Holes
Using a power drill, carefully drill through the center-
punched marks to create clean holes. Ensure you are
wearing safety equipment and that the drill bit is
appropriate for the sheet material.
Step 6: Cutting Along Red Lines
With a metal cutter or tin snips, cut along all the red
lines indicated in the reference figure. Be precise to
maintain the integrity of the shape.
Step 7: Chiseling Blue Lines
After cutting, use a chisel and ball-peen hammer to score
or indent the green lines as shown in the figure. These
chiselled lines will act as fold guides to ensure sharp and
accurate bends.
Step 8: Folding the Grill Box
Proceed to fold the sheet metal along the chiseled blue
lines. Follow the folding sequence exactly as illustrated in
the figure. This will form the basic structure of the grill box.
Step 9: Quality Check
Inspect the folded grill box for accuracy and quality. Check
that all folds are aligned, and that there are no unintended
curves, bends, or deformities.
Step 10: Submission
Once the grill box passes inspection, submit the
finished product to the professor for evaluation.
