Introduction
system – Introduction
PCS 7 has two different archive types:
"Tag Logging Fast" archive type "Tag Logging Slow" archive type
• Acquisition cycle less than or equal to 1
• The TagLogging Slow archive type is used for an
minute.
acquisition cycle greater than 1 minute.
• The preset value of 1 minute can be changed
manually in the "Tag Logging" editor using the
tag configuration of archive type "TagLogging
Fast".
In PCS 7 a distinction is made between two types of archives, which you configure in
different editors:

Process value archives with the "Tag Logging" editor
Message archive for messages and alarms with the "Alarm Logging" editor
Archive configuration
To specify the size of the archive for an individual segment and the total size of the
short-term archive, the system always provides two criteria:
Specification of a time period in hours/days/weeks/months/years
Physical size in MB or GB
When one of the two criteria is exceeded, a change of segment occurs in the case of an
individual segment or the starting segment of the total short-term archive is overwritten.
The archive configuration includes settings in the following tools:
Specification of size and storage location (Logging editors in WinCC Explorer)
Selection of the process values and messages to be archived (SIMATIC Manager)

Archive configuration
Unlike when configuring archive type "TagLogging Slow", the additional "Archive

period, you need information about how many archive tags will be logged per second on
average.
As a rule, no more than 200 single segments in total (for the Tag Logging Fast/Slow
and Alarm Logging archive databases) may be created.

Starting with PCS 7 Version V7.1, the functionality of WinCC Online Trend Control has
been enhanced (e.g. zoom tools) and the design has been changed.
The appearance of WinCC Online Trend Control in the process picture depends on
which template was selected when creating the trend group.
Versions before V7.1: Template picture "@TRG_Default.pdl"
V7.1 and later: Template picture "@TRG_Standard.pdl"
Both versions can be used in PCS 7 Version 7.1 and higher.
Standard case You open preconfigured trend groups via buttons in process
pictures. You analyze the trends and manipulate the trend fields
with specified functions.
Opening/creating new You open a "Trends Online" dialog box in the work area.

You can choose between online tags and archive tags:
1 - Archive tags: With this setting, you visualize the tags that were written to the
archive you specified in the "Tag Logging" editor.
2 - Online tags: With this setting you visualize a measured value directly from the
process. This measured value is displayed to the plant operator as long as the Online
Trend Control is displayed in the process control. The displayed measured value is
not saved in the archive.
Archive and online tags can be displayed together within an Online Trend Control.
