1.

Pre-Shift Preparation

Arrival & Check-In:

 Arrive at the security station at least 15 minutes before the start of your shift.

 Check in with the previous guard or supervisor for a shift handover, including any
incidents or updates.

 Ensure all equipment (radio, flashlight, access control tools, first aid kits, etc.) is
functional and fully charged.

Uniform Check:

 Ensure your uniform is clean, neat, and properly worn.

 Make sure that your identification badge is visible at all times.

Shift Briefing:

 Review the security log and any special instructions for your shift (e.g., VIP visitors,
maintenance work, high-risk areas).

 Familiarize yourself with any updates related to the building or facility’s security
measures (e.g., changes in patrol routes or equipment).

2. Starting the Shift

Access Control:

 Ensure that the main entrance(s) are secured and verify the identity of employees,
visitors, and contractors before granting access.

 Log all entries and exits, ensuring that visitor badges are issued and recorded accurately.

 Monitor security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring they are operational.

Patrol Assignments:

 Begin your assigned patrol, ensuring that all areas are covered. This could include:

o Interior patrol: offices, hallways, elevators, restrooms, and other indoor areas.

o Exterior patrol: parking lots, grounds, fencing, and access points.

 Perform routine checks for potential hazards or safety violations (e.g., unlocked doors,
suspicious items, or unsafe conditions).

Monitor Surveillance Systems:

 Continuously monitor security cameras and alarms for any unusual or suspicious activity.

 Pay attention to entry/exit points, restricted areas, and areas where employees are
vulnerable (e.g., break rooms, parking lots after dark).

Interaction with Employees and Visitors:

 Provide assistance to employees and visitors as needed (e.g., directions, building access).

 Ensure that employees adhere to security protocols, including using employee badges or
swipe cards to enter restricted areas.

3. Incident Response

Suspicious Activity:

 If you observe suspicious activity (e.g., unauthorized individuals, loitering, or potential

theft), approach the situation carefully.

 Assess the situation and, if necessary, approach the individual to inquire politely about
their purpose.

 Record the event and report it to your supervisor, following escalation protocols.

Emergency Situations:

 In the event of an emergency (e.g., medical emergency, fire alarm, active shooter),
follow the facility's emergency response protocol.

 Respond to the emergency by alerting appropriate authorities (fire department, medical

assistance, etc.) and assisting in evacuation or crowd control if needed.

 Ensure that your actions prioritize the safety of employees and visitors.

Alarm Responses:

 If an alarm sounds (e.g., fire alarm, break-in alarm), immediately investigate the source
of the alarm while following company procedures.

 Confirm whether it's a false alarm or a real emergency and respond accordingly (e.g.,
evacuating the building, alerting emergency services, or providing assistance).
4. Monitoring & Reporting

Daily Log:

 Maintain a detailed log of your activities throughout your shift, including:

o Time of your patrols.

o Any incidents, alarms, or security breaches.

o Visitor check-ins and check-outs.

o Equipment issues or concerns.

o Any maintenance issues that require attention.

 Ensure that all reports are clear, accurate, and submitted at the end of your shift.

Equipment Checks:

 Regularly check your security equipment (e.g., radio, flashlight, alarm systems) to ensure
they are in working order.

 Report any malfunctioning or broken equipment to your supervisor immediately.

5. End of Shift Procedures

Shift Handover:

 Conduct a shift handover with the next security guard. Share important details,
including:

o Any incidents or ongoing issues that need attention.

o Special events or instructions for the next shift.

o The status of equipment and security systems.

 Ensure the next guard is aware of all critical security information and any potential
threats.

Final Walkthrough:

 Perform a final walkthrough of the facility to ensure all doors are locked, surveillance
cameras are functioning, and no security breaches have occurred.
 Check that all lights are turned off in non-essential areas and that alarms are armed (if
applicable).

Logging Off:

 Make sure that all shift activities are logged accurately and complete any required
paperwork.

 Check out with your supervisor at the end of your shift, noting any concerns or
incidents.

De-briefing:

 If required, attend a short debriefing to discuss any important events, receive feedback,
and clarify any questions regarding the shift.

6. Continuous Improvement

Training and Development:

 Attend regular security training sessions to stay updated on procedures, technology, and
any new protocols.

 Participate in drills (e.g., fire drills, active shooter drills) to ensure preparedness in real-
life emergencies.

 Provide feedback on security procedures and suggest improvements based on your

experience and observations.
