TP2-simulation Procede Toluene

The document details a process simulation for toluene production through the dehydrogenation of n-heptane using a chromium(III) oxide catalyst. It outlines the operating conditions, including temperatures and conversion rates, across four unit operations and six streams. The chemical reaction is represented as C7H16 → C7H8 + 4H2, with thermodynamic models specified as Peng-Robinson for K-Value and H-Value.

Lab Work 2 - PROCESS SIMULATION
Toluene Production
1- Process Description
The reaction involves the dehydrogenation of n-heptane (C7H16) using a chromium(III) oxide (Cr2O3)
catalyst. The process starts by heating 10 kg of the incoming reactant from an initial temperature of 18°C
to 426°C in a heat exchanger. It is then introduced into an isothermal stoichiometric reactor, where 50%
of the n-heptane is converted into toluene (C7H8).
At the reactor outlet, the mixture is cooled in a heat exchanger to a temperature of 18°C before being fed
into a flash column.(Liquid / Vapor separaion)
Assuming that the entire installation operates at atmospheric pressure (1.01 bar), determine the output
streams from the flash column (Stream 5 and Stream 6) as shown in the diagram below.
