W٣٤hales: Giants of the Ocean

Whales are the largest mammals on Earth and are known for their intelligence,
complex communication, and graceful presence in the oceans. They belong to the
order Cetacea, which also includes dolphins and porpoises. Whales are divided into
two main types: baleen whales and toothed whales.

Baleen whales, like the blue whale and humpback whale, use plates made of baleen to
filter small organisms like krill and plankton from the water. Toothed whales, such
as the sperm whale and orca (killer whale), have teeth and hunt fish, squid, and
other marine animals.

Whales are highly social and communicate using a variety of sounds, especially in
species like humpbacks, which are famous for their haunting and beautiful songs.
Many whales migrate thousands of kilometers each year between feeding and breeding
grounds.

Despite their size and power, whales face threats from climate change, ocean
pollution, ship strikes, and hunting. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect
their habitats and ensure their survival.

Whales remind us of the vast and mysterious world beneath the sea — and the
importance of preserving it for generations to come.
