Research Proposal Project SHIELD

The research proposal aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Project SHIELD in enhancing Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) awareness and preparedness among learners and teachers at Tibig Elementary School. It will utilize a quantitative-descriptive design with pre-test and post-test assessments to measure changes in DRRM knowledge and readiness following targeted interventions. The study seeks to determine significant improvements in participants' DRRM capabilities and inform future initiatives.

ANNEX 1: Research Proposal Application Form and Endorsement of Immediate

A. RESEARCH INFORMATION

RESEARCH TITLE:
Evaluating the Impact of Project SHIELD (School’s Helping In Emergency Leadership
Development) on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Awareness and
Preparedness Among Learners and Teachers at Tibig Elementary School
SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH:

This quantitative research aims to assess the effectiveness of Project SHIELD

(School’s Helping In Emergency Leadership Development) in enhancing Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management (DRRM) awareness and preparedness among learners
and teachers at Tibig Elementary School. The project focuses on developing
leadership skills in emergency situations and providing targeted interventions to
improve the school community's ability to respond to natural disasters. This study
specifically aims to evaluate the DRRM knowledge and preparedness levels of both
learners and teachers before and after the implementation of Project SHIELD and
determine if there is a significant improvement in their readiness to handle
emergencies.

The study will employ a quantitative-descriptive research design using a pre-test and
post-test approach to measure the participants' DRRM awareness and preparedness
before and after the intervention. The research participants will consist of learners
and teachers from Tibig Elementary School selected through purposive sampling.
The intervention will include workshops, simulations, and training sessions that focus
on key aspects of DRRM, including risk assessment, emergency response protocols,
and leadership roles during crises. Data collection will be conducted throughout the
program's implementation to monitor changes in DRRM knowledge and
preparedness over time.

To collect quantitative data, the study will use pre-tests and post-tests aligned with
DRRM competencies to evaluate both learners' and teachers' understanding of
disaster risks, response strategies, and leadership roles. Additionally, a structured
questionnaire will be distributed to gather feedback on the perceived effectiveness
of the program. The gathered data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics
(mean, frequency, and percentage) to summarize the participants' levels of
awareness and preparedness. A paired t-test will be conducted to determine if there
is a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. This
quantitative analysis will provide evidence of the impact of Project SHIELD and
inform future DRRM initiatives at Tibig Elementary School.
