SDG INFORMATION

GAD and UN SDG Alignment

The extension initiative “San Francisco Norte: Our Community, Our Environment”, specifically
its component project “Barangay San Francisco Eco-Action: Awareness, Clean-up, and
Reforestation,” is designed to respond to the urgent environmental needs of Brgy. San Francisco
Norte while promoting inclusive and sustainable community development. Rooted in the
principles of Gender and Development (GAD), the project ensures that both women and men,
especially youth, are meaningfully engaged in all stages of the project—from planning to
implementation. Through activities such as clean-up drives, reforestation efforts, mural
creation, and community workshops, the initiative fosters shared environmental stewardship
and provides equitable leadership opportunities for all community members.

Aligned with global sustainability efforts, the project advances several UN Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). It contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by
addressing local sanitation issues and promoting cleaner, healthier surroundings. SDG 5
(Gender Equality) is reflected in the intentional inclusion of women and young leaders in
training, coordination, and environmental decision-making. SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and
Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) are addressed through community-based ecological
restoration, waste management education, and climate-conscious practices such as tree
planting. Further, the project supports SDG 15 (Life on Land) by enhancing local biodiversity
through native species reforestation and reducing land degradation. Finally, SDG 17
(Partnerships for the Goals) is operationalized through collaboration with local stakeholders,
including barangay councils, the LGU, Sangguniang Kabataan, and national agencies such as the
DENR and DepEd.

By merging environmental action with gender equality and inclusive participation, this project
serves as a model for community-driven sustainable development, reinforcing the university’s
role in transformative local engagement and national development agendas.
