EXTERNAL COMMAND

Those command that are not automatically


loaded, when dos is loaded into the memory.
1.EDIT COMMAND: This Command Allows users
to create a new file or modify the content of
an existing file.
Syntax:- Edit filename.txt

2. Doskey command: this command is


used to check a history of commands used on
the computer.
Syntax:- c:\>doskey
The above command doskey allow the user
to press down /arrow key from keyboard to
see the history.
3. Attrib command :- this command
allows a user to change the properties 0r
attributes of a file.

Syntax:- C:\attrib

5. Mode command :- this command is


used to display the status of all device on the
system.

6. Label command:-the purpose of this


command is used to change the label of
computer disk drive.
Syntax: lable
CHKDSK Command:-
This command checks the
computer hard drive.
Syntax:- C:\chkdsk

Scan command:-
This command is used to check
various kinds of disk error.

Syntax:- C:\scan disk

F disk command:-
This command is used to delete
or create partition on the hard
disk drive.

Syntax:-
C:\F disk

Format command:-
This command erases all the data
from the defective disk
Syntax:-
C:\format drive name

Backup command:-
This command is used to backup
the data on the system.

Syntax:
C:\backup drive name

Restore command:-
This command is used to restore
al files and directories.
