What is slavery?
~Rayna
A slave has to do what is asked to him by his master, usually this is
work of sometime. Slaves are punished for not following their
master’s orders, working too slowly, or attempting to run away. A
slave is a human being who is owned by another person. Even if a slave
has children they do not belong to them, they belong to the owner
who can sell them. When we think of slavery today we think of the
black Africans who were captured, sold into slavery and taken to the
Americans to work homestead there. This has been the sad past
history.
European-Based slavery~Shanzay
The french were known to be the third largest slave traders;
The first French slave trading voyages started from the 17th Century so that
the french merchants could get personal profit.
Then the french captured west africa and brought west african people to France
and used them as slaves to make them work on their land.
The french colonists also enslaved 10,000 native americans and forced them to
work as farm hands, domestic servants and construction laborers.
Even though they were slaves but they were still clothed, fed and taken care of
when sick.
On April 27,1848 the proclamation of the abolition of slavery in the french
colonies was made.
Racism based Slavery ~Maham
North american slavery
North American slavery, spanning the 17th to mid-19th centuries, forcibly transported Africans to the Americas for
labor under horrific conditions. The system prevailed in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean, subjecting
individuals to extreme suffering.Abolitionists worked hard, and during the American Civil War, they succeeded in
making the Emancipation Proclamation in 1865. This important document ended slavery in the United States.
INDIAN SLAVERY
Indian slavery is the historical practice of European invaders enslaving peoples of the Americas, primarily Native Americans.
The forced labor, bloodshed, and eviction of indigenous communities began with Christopher Columbus' arrival in the
Americas. The colonization and exploitation of the Americas by European powers from the 15th through the 19th centuries
included the exploitation of Native Americans through slavery. The social, economic, and cultural facets of indigenous tribes
are still affected by this tragic time of history.
South American Slavery~Moiz
Slavery in South America was a economic source of money that existed in the 19th
century before the colonial era. European empires created trade networks in Africa to
facilitate the slave trade in their colonies in South America and the Caribbean. Slaves
endured the Middle Passage across the Atlantic Ocean and, those who survived, were
forced to labor in plantations, mines, and households. Slavery in South America
started in 1450’s and ended In the 19th century, the Wars of Independence in Spanish
America, combined with British efforts to abolish the slave trade, considerably
weakened slaveholders and empowered slaves and supporters of abolition. The main
person who ended slavery in South America was Abraham Lincoln.
Industrial and Modern slavery~Huzaifa
Whilst most think slavery an element of the past, slavery was still common only
80-130 years back, as the industrial era brought about multiple new cheap
sources of a established labour force. Big tobacco Capitalized on this,
partnering with victorian orphanages to provide the cheap labour. The work
spaces were mostly unsanitary, and were offered little protection from
dangerous fumes coming from elements like white phosphorus.
Modern day Slavery has also been a growing issue in pakistan and abroad, with
illegal slavery and legal slavery both being horrible feats of humanity’s hatred
toward itself.A prime example of this is modern pakistani brick kilns, where
balochi lower class folk who borrowed money from zameendars/landowners,
are forced to work in appalling labour conditions to repay the debts. The truth
is that they are in fact ,not allowed to leave the kiln, are not allowed to see there
contract, and are especially, not allowed to take legal action against the
zammeendars for they have ties to the government and are immune to
persecution. So,are forcing the baloch lower class to be slaves.
Slavery has been a part of human nature, and the belief that
one is subservient to another is a element found even
today, although millions have fallen, there sacrifices were
in vain, for as of modern times,Slavery is still carried
through unjust legal loopholes.
