SECTION-B

All Questions are Compulsory: (3×6=18 Marks)

11. (a) A random variable X is distributed at random between the values 0 and 2 CO3 6 K4
so that its probability density function is: (𝑥)=𝑘𝑥(1−𝑥^3), where 𝑘 is a
constant. Find the value of k. Also find mean and variance.
OR
(b) Prove that E(𝑎𝑋)=𝑎𝐸(𝑋), where a is constant and X is a random variable.
12. (a) In a small village, there are 87 families, of which 52 families have atmost CO4 6 K4
2 children. In a rural development programme 20 families are to be chosen
for assistance, of which at least 18 families must have at most 2 children.
In how many ways can the choice be made?
OR
(b) There are four bus routes between A and B; and three bus routes between
B and C. A man can travel round-trip in number of ways by bus from A to
C via B. If he does not want to use a bus route more than once, in how
many ways can he make round trip?
13. (a) What usually is the basis of rejection or acceptance of a hypothesis? CO5 6 K4
