Connecting to the PowerVision Toolkit
The PowerVision Toolkit for Windows uses the same connections as PowerVision
Configuration Studio®. Please refer to the PowerVision Configuration Studio® Core
manual for information on how to set up and connect to your display. This manual is
available on the website along with other documentation and software needed for working
with PowerVision based hardware.
Overview of the PowerVision Toolkit for Windows
The PowerVision Toolkit is a set of tools that will allow you to support deployed
hardware based on the PowerVision Platform. This includes most Murphy display
products as well as the latest controllers, such as MPC-20. When launching the
PowerVision Toolkit, you will see an application that looks similar to the one below.
The PowerVision Toolkit is designed to support the latest version of Windows (7 to 10)
and provide an optimal experience on a wide variety of PC hardware.
The PowerVision Toolkit provides the following tools by clicking the Navigation
Bar along the top of the window.
Connection: This tool queries for devices and allows you to select from connected devices. It
provides the means to configure the communication method to use when communicating to the device.
Remote Diagnostics: This tool allows the user to view the internal variables of a display or
controller at runtime. This feature is supported only for displays that are running PowerVision 2.8 or
greater.

Connection
The Connection page
allows you to query for
devices which are
connected to the
computer running the
PowerVision Toolkit.
Before you can query
the devices, you must
configure the conduit for
the type of connection
you are using. The
buttons on the lower
panel of the right side of
the Conduit Setup
screen are used to
change conduit settings
so that you are able to
query or reboot a
display. For example,
to connect to a color
display using the
ethernet (PowerVision Connection Kit) you would select Color Display and TCP Conduit as shown in the
figure on the right.
To connect to a monochrome display using the EControls ECOM Connection
(CAN), you would configure the conduit as shown on the left (Mono/ECOM).
After configuring the conduit
for your PC, you can select
the search for devices
button on the top right to see all connected devices.
You may also need to click this button if you have
disconnected or connected a different display.
Depending on your setup, you may see one or
more devices in the list in the center of the window.
If more than one device is shown, you can select
the device by clicking the device block. The currently selected device will show on the bottom left of the
window.
The update firmware… button allows you to load new programs to a device. These programs are files
created by PowerVision Configuration Studio® using the Generate Full Install feature or provided to you
by Murphy by Enovation Controls for use on your display. Typically these are files with a .pv1 file
extension. This feature supports color devices which have PowerVision 2.3 installed and monochrome
devices that have version 2.7 or later installed.
The update firmware… button will present a file open dialog for the selection of the firmware file to load.
When the directory and the file is selected the Open button will begin the firmware update. A banner with
the percentage complete will show the update activity. The update can be terminated with the cancel
button on the banner.
Finally, you can reboot the device by clicking the reboot or reboot to loader button on the top right of the
window.

Remote Diagnostics
The Remote Diagnostics page allows you to see a remote view of the display, the current value of
variables, strings, lists on the device at run time, fire events and use a CAN console to the device. In
order for this feature to communicate with the display, the configuration must have each of the desired
variables, strings, lists and events selected with the “Include in Public API” option in the configuration.
Remote: This page allows the user to remotely see the screen and press buttons on a display. It
provides a way to capture screen shots from the display. This tool works on all color displays after
PowerVision 2.6. In addition it works on monochrome displays after 2.6 but only when connected using
the Serial Conduit.
Variables: Real time values of selected variables can be displayed, updated and saved.
Strings: Real time string values of selected variables can be displayed and updated.
Lists: Real time values of selected lists can be displayed, updated and items added or deleted.
Events: Selected events in the configuration can be fired on the device.
Console: A serial style console display can be used to the device over a CAN connection.

Remote
The Remote page
allows you to see the
current display from a
remote location. To
use Remote you must
have a color display
connected using
ethernet or a
monochrome display
that is connected with a
serial connection. In
addition, Remote
requires that the
display have a program
created with
PowerVision 2.9 or
greater.
After a display has
been identified, the
center of the screen will
show an approximate layout of your device. This shows the screen as well as the location of the keys on
the display bezel (blue circles). Each of these virtual keys can be clicked with the mouse to send a
KeyPress and KeyRelease message to the display. After a key is released, the display will
automatically refresh the view to show any changes which occurred in response to the key press.
Other Useful Features in Remote:
• To capture the current screen to the clipboard, select the copy image button. You can then paste
this image into any image compatible application. This is useful when creating manuals and for
capturing the state of the screen at any time.
• The zoom slider will allow you to scale the view to a larger or smaller display based on your
preferences.
• To snap the display to fit the current window, click the zoom to fit button. This will set the virtual
screen to the largest size that will fit the window. If the window is large enough to fit the screen,
it will set the zoom to 100% (1:1 pixels.)
