REPORT FOR ONAM CELEBRATION 2019-2020
Onam is a Hindu festival celebrated by the people of Kerala. Onam is a Malayali festival
which is celebrated by native speakers of Malayalam. As per the Solar Calendar followed by
Malayali people, the festival of Onam is celebrated in Chingam month
The preparations start 10 days ahead of the three prominent days. People make ‘flower
mats’ known as Pookalam (a flower rangoli) in their courtyards.Grand feasts are prepared on this
occasion which is known as ‘onasadya’. It comprises 13 dishes. The food is served on banana
leaves and commonly consists of rice along with different dishes.
Onam celebrations was observed on Friday, September 6, 2019,at the Aalim
Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering were a vibrant and joyful affair, kicked off by an
inspiring speech from Principal,Dr.Afzal Ali Baig.The event brought together the essence of
tradition and excitement, with students participating in a flash mob dressed in beautiful Onam
attire, showcasing the spirit of the festival.
The festivities included a lively rangoli competition, where creative arrangements filled
the campus with colors and tradition. The event was a perfect blend of culture, competition, and
camaraderie, making this year’s Onam celebration at Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of
Engineering a memorable one for all who attended.

REPORT FOR ONAM CELEBRATION 2021-2022
Onam is a Malayali festival which is celebrated by native speakers of Malayalam. As per
the Solar Calendar followed by Malayali people, the festival of Onam is celebrated in Chingam
month .
Despite being a demon, King Mahabali was known to be generous and kind, and his reign
is regarded as the golden era in Kerala, which is why his ‘return’ is so widely celebrated.
According to Vaishnava mythology, it is said that Mahabali came to power by defeating the gods
and taking over the three worlds. Gods were unhappy with his popularity and asked for Lord
Vishnu’s help in a battle against the demon king. Vishnu agreed to help but did not want to
participate in a battle as Mahabali was his ardent devotee. Instead, to help other gods, he took the
form of a poor dwarf Brahmin (his Vamana avatar from the Dasavatara) and visited Mahabali,
asking the king to grant him three wishes. The Brahmin requested the property right over a piece
of land that measures “three paces”, to which Mahabali agreed. The dwarf suddenly grew in size
and covered everything Mahabali ruled over in just two steps. For the third step, Mahabali
offered his head.
Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering celebrated Onam with great
enthusiasm and traditional fervor on Saturday, August 21, 2021. The event featured a series of
captivating performances, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Kerala, the southern state of
India. The celebration not only involved the students ,creating a sense of unity and togetherness.
The celebration commenced with a prayer, setting a spiritual tone for the
event.Kishore,Volunteer, delivered a speech highlighting the significance and history of Onam.
The celebration fostered a sense of unity and belonging among the college’s community, as it
provided an opportunity for staffs and students to come together and celebrate as one large
family.

Onam commemorates the legacy of a life of equality, unity and prosperity. Onam teaches
us to unite by excelling in our differences and also speaks of a time when there was no
inequality. Onam brings the memory of the golden era of Kerala state which gave the priority to
the welfare of the people. Onam is a Hindu festival celebrated by the people of Kerala. Onam is a

In the golden memories of the Onam festival and joy, Aalim Muhammed Salegh College
of Engineering called the Onam celebration on Saturday, September 8, 2022 to mark unity
and equality among the student community. Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering
welcomed Onam with a huge flower carpet made by the students in the courtyard of the
campus. There are many programs and traditional competitions were organised as part of the
celebration. Students participated in the programs with great enthusiasm and joy. The onam
celebration ends with a cultural event at the campus.
