First Grade News

March 19 March 23, 2012

What were learning
Our Bible stories for this week are Eli and His Wicked Sons and Saul Becomes King. We will be reading A Real Gift and Arthurs Reading Race in our basal reading books. We are focusing on the ay and ea sounds. Math will include subtracting 10, subtracting 9, measuring distance using feet, and identifying a dozen. We will identify pronouns and edit our writing. Science includes how frogs grow.

Assignments
Here are some ways to challenge your child: Math Make a dozen cookies and write a math story about how there were some cookies and then some went away. Act out the story! :) Reading Challenge yourself to learn some sign language through a book or the internet. Share what you learned at school. Science- Write a story from a frogs perspective including all the stages of growth. Monday, March 19: Read Christ Light Eli and His Wicked Sons Read A Real Gift Tuesday, March 20: Memory Work: Ephesians 6:1 Read Arthurs Reading Race Wednesday, March 21: None (Lenten Services 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.) Thursday, March 22: Hymn 714 The Lamb Spelling Test (clay, day, hay, play, say, spray, sway, tray, Bonus: saying, says)

Note: Hymn 714 is different from the one written on your Quarter Memory Work schedule. Looking at the original 217 Hymn Stricken, Smitten and Afflicted, I think this song will be more appropriate and easier to understand and learn. Hymn 714 is found in the Christian Worship Supplement. Hymn 714 The Lamb The Lamb, the Lamb, O Father, wheres the sacrifice? Faith sees, believes God will provide the Lamb of price! Worthy is the Lamb whose death makes me his own! The Lamb is reigning on his throne.
