By using appropriate picture books, it gives benefits to the young learners to
understand the story. The importance of using picture books is to develop young
learners imagination Picture books have a lot of pictures which tell a continuous
story. For young learner, the picture is the non - verbally direct method. The young
learner will look at the picture and tell the story or understand the story in their own
words. Thus, the young learner will understand the story by their imagination looking
at the picture.

to the story, look and interpreting the picture at the picture books. The teacher will
tell the story and the students will sit around the teacher that create intimacy
environment. The students will look at the picture and explain proudly to the class.
The students will communicate actively with the teacher and students on their
opinion about the story. Thus, the students will develop their language competences
and their vocabulary while sharing their understanding about the plot of the story.
The teacher must have criteria on choosing appropriate picture books that can
be used in the classroom. Firstly, the teacher must choose the theme of the story
that the young learner enjoy. Young learner often enjoys the stories that use
animals, humor or fantasy. The illustrations of the picture books are accurate to the
plot, character, and setting and pleasing to the eye. The picture must be big, and
colourful and striking colour. The picture is support the text and must less word.
