SECTION - 1
Q 1 Answer the following in detail. (Any 2) [10]
I) Give structures of antihistamines exhibiting (i) enantiomerism, (ii) E-Z isomerism, (iii)
atropisomerism.
II) Give a brief account of development of second generation antihistamine. Write
synthesis of promethazine hydrochloride.
III) Write short note (emphasising mechanism and chemistry of drugs) on (i) H2 receptor
antagonists, (ii) proton pump inhibitors
Q 2 Answer the following in detail. (Any 2) [10]
I) Write use and steps in synthesis of (i) disopyramide phosphate, (ii) furosemide
II) Discuss conformational and structural requirements for cardiotonic activity of glycosides.
III) Classify diuretics giving structure of one drug each from any five classes.

Q 3 Answer the following in detail. (Any 2) [10]


I) Give name and structure of an antihypertensive drug which is also used in (i) anxiety,
(ii) alopecia, (iii) psychosis, (iv) benign prostatic hypertrophy, (v) angina pectoris
II) Differentiate in mechanism of action of clonidine, methyldopa and metyrosine. Write
steps in synthesis of methyldopate hydrochloride.
III) Discuss structure activity relationship of HMG coenzyme A reductase inhibitors.

Q 4 Answer the following in detail. (Any 2) [10]
I) Give classification and mechanism of actions for anti-diabetic agents.

II) Describe thyroid hormone biosynthesis and release process in detail.

III) Explain the structural requirement of sulfonyl ureas for anti-diabetic activity and outline synthesis of
Tolbutamide.

Q 5 Answer the following in detail. (Any 2) [10]


I) Discuss structure activity relationship of mineralocorticoids.
II) Discuss structure activity relationship of androgenic drugs. Write in short about use
and mechanism of anabolic steroids giving two examples.
III) Give name and structure of a drug used in/as: (i) anabolic steroid, (ii) male
hypogonadism, (iii) nonsteroidal estrogen, (iv) ovulation inducer, (v) aromatase
inhibitor
Q 6 Answer the following in detail. (Any 2) [10]
I) Classify antimetabolite agents giving their mechanism of action. Outline synthesis of methotrexate.

II) Give chemical classfication of local anesthetics with one structure from each class.

III) Give synthesis of a) Mercaptopurine b) Mechlorethamine
