audience, believable, relatable, and driven by compelling motivations
 Dialogue – serve the story, moving the plot forward and deepening our understanding of
the characters, natural, engaging, and reveal character
 Plot – engine of the story, driving the action and creating conflict, must keep the
audience engaged and invested in the character’s journey
Key Elements
 Logline – one sentence summary of the script’s central conflict and goal
 Synopsis – brief overview of the story, outlining the main plot points and character arcs
 Treatment – more detailed outline of the script
 Scene – basic unit of a script, representing a specific location and time
 Dialogue – words spoken by the characters, revealing their personalities
 Action – physical actions and events that occur within a scene
 Character Description – brief descriptions of the character
Genres and Style
 Action – fast paced, filled with physical stunts and thrilling sequences
 Comedy – aims to entertain and evoke laughter though witty dialogue and humorous
situations
