Body/Squad camera fo details and verbiage On April 17th, 2023 at approximately 8:46pm, I, Officer Canadzic #145 responded to the La Quinta Inn (6688 Northridge Dr, Gurnee, IL 60031) for a suspicious circumstance. Dispatch stated that the caller stated that she was on a date with a black male and that he tried to kidnap her. The caller said the male's name was. "Jovan Marquez", he was later identified as Jovan Marquez Berry. The caller stated that Berry left and that he was naked. While en route, Officer Gullifor located Berry standing naked on the median of Grand Ave just before Dilleys. Berry appeared to be bleeding from his hands and knees, the Gurnee Fire Department was called to location for his injuries. | spoke with Berry and he identified himself as "Jovan Marquez Berry" with a date of birth offfIERSSAE] Gumee FD arrived and | left location to make contact with the caller. Ofc. Gullifor, Ofc. Sulaiman, and Ofc. Gomez stayed on scene with Berry, see their supplemental report for details. | artived at the La Quinta Inn where | made contact with the caller, who was identified as Minna Eveliina Nousiainen Becher. Becher relayed the following in summary, verbally: Becher stated that approximately two weeks ago she met Berry through facebook. Becher and Berry had been texting and facetiming since then. They made plans to meet up and Becher picked Berry up from a train station in Chicago at approximately 6:08pm. Becher and Berry then drove to the Walmart in Gurnee where they made purchases. Becher and Berry then arrived at the LaQuinta at approximately 7:30/8pm where Becher rented a room. Becher and Berry then had a drink and went to the hotel pool. They then came back to their room where they started talking and kissing. Becher stated that Berry then began to make weird statements that she was his and that she served him, Becher stated that he also said that he "wanted her to make him money and be his". Becher then walked towards the door and texted a friend because she was getting a weird feeling. Berry then walked up to her near the door and began to grab Becher and try to drag her into the hallway. Becher stated that at one point Berry grabbed her neck with his hand and pushed into her throat. Becher stated that she could not breathe and was unsure how long he was grabbing her by the throat. Becher continued to resist Berry and then he eventually ran away. Becher stated that she did want to file charges. Becher completed written statement, along with the domestic violence paperwork. Officer Gullfor photographer pictures of Bechers injuries, which consisted on scratches on her right arm and a scratch on her left should/collar bone area. Photos of the injuries were uploaded to [Link]. Belcher refused rescue. | provided her with a contact card, report number, and instructions on how to obtain an order of protection. While Berry was being transported by Gurnee FD the ambulance pulled over at Rt. 21/Rt.137, see Officers supplemental report for details. Berry was taken to Advocate Condell Center, while being treated he went into cardiac arrest and had to be intubated.
