ICT weekly content (03 – 07 march)

Def : ICT (Information And Communication Technology) – refers to


the technology used for managing , processing and communicating
information. These technologies are:
 COMPUTERS (Personal computers, servers, mainframes smart
phones and other smart devices)
 Software applications (email, social media )
 Networks (LAN, WAN, internet, Wi-Fi)

Def of network: a network is a link or connection of two or more


devices for purposes of sharing information and other resources. The
network can be a wired connection or wireless.
Signal: Refers to data which is in electromagnetic form.
TYPES OF SIGNALS
Digital signals Analog signals
 Data in discrete values/  Data in continuous wave
Binary format (0s & 1s) form.
 e.g data/ information in a  e.g movement, voice
computer. signals.
 Modulation- is the convertion of analog signals to digital
signals for transmission over networks.
 Demodulation – is the convertion of digital signals to analog
signals so it can be understood by the human mind.
Functions of ICT in the digital realm

ICT is used in different fields to improve productivity, efficiency, and


communication.
 Communication Email, instant messaging, and video
conferencing.
Example: Zoom meetings for remote work.

 Education Online learning platforms like Google Classroom.


Example: E-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 Business and Finance E-commerce websites, digital banking.


Example: People use PayPal to make online payments.

 Entertainment Video streaming, gaming, social media.


Example: Watching Netflix or playing games on PlayStation.

 Healthcare Electronic medical records, telemedicine.


Example: Doctors using computers to diagnose diseases.

Advantages of Using ICT in Everyday Life

Example: Sending a WhatsApp message instead of writing a


letter.

Example: Google Drive stores and shares documents online.

The internet provides unlimited knowledge.

Example: Students researching assignments on Wikipedia.

• Automation of Tasks

Reduces human effort and errors.

Example: ATMs dispense cash without human tellers.

• Entertainment and Creativity

Online platforms for movies, music, and gaming.

Example: YouTube for videos, Spotify for music.
