SETTING 1: The forest.
NARRATOR:
In England, many years ago, King Richard the Lionheart left his country to fight in the Crusades. His
brother, Prince John, was now in charge and he was not a nice person. He raised everyone’s taxes and
made life miserable for them all.
RAPPERS:
He /taxed their/homes, he /taxed their /pay,
He /taxed them /all in /every /way,
He /taxed their /clothes, he /taxed their /food,
Prince /John was /just a /nasty /dude.
NARRATOR:
His buddy, the Sheriff of Nottingham, threw people out of their homes if they couldn’t pay their taxes.
So many people were poor. One man decided to go and live in the forest. His name was Robin Hood.
(ROBIN HOOD enters holding a bow & arrows.)
ROBIN HOOD:
This looks like a good spot. Hmm, it’s dinner time and there are no cafes in the forest. I’ll use my trusty
bow and arrow to find something to eat. I think I’ll do a volley of arrows.
(ROBIN HOOD shoots four arrows in different directions.)
LITTLE JOHN:
(0ffstage) Aargh!
ALAN A’DALE:
(0ffstage) What?
FRIAR TUCK:
(0ffstage) Ouch!
MAIN MARIAN:
(0ffstage) Hey!
RAPPERS:
He /sent some /arrows /through the /air,
He /wondered /what he’d /shoot out /there,
He /found some /targets, /it was /true,
But /were not /things that /he could /chew.
(LITTLE JOHN enters, arrow through hat)
LITTLE JOHN:
(removing arrow) WHAT are you doing?
(ALAN A’DALE enters with ukulele, holding arrow.)
ALAN A’DALE:
I just caught this mid-air.
(FRIAR TUCK enters, arrow through sleeve of costume.)
FRIAR TUCK:
What is this for, pray tell?
(MAID MARIAN enters, arrow through basket she is carrying.)
MAID MARIAN:
Who’s shooting arrows around here?
ROBIN HOOD:
Oh, that’d be me.
NARRATOR
I wonder what this band will do
What is this band supposed to do?
ROBIN HOOD
We’ll, I suppose something useful I guess…um… um…
ALAN A’DALE:
Yeah yes we could um um we can eat the pie while we think about it
LITTLE JOHN:
Yes, yes!
FRIAR TUCK
Now we can form a band that helps people
ALAN A’DALE
I like that idea
ROBIN HOOD
OK it’s settled, we’ll go with helping people
FRIAR TUCK:
But how?
LITTLE JOHN:
I know! We’ll rob rich people and give it to the poor
RAPPERS:
/______Sure!
They robbed the witch to feed the poor
They’d lurk behind the forest trees
And all the riches they could seize/
ALAN A’DALE
Here comes someone, look!
ROBIN HOOD
All right everybody hide
*Robin and his band catch the man*
FRIAR TUCK
Hold there
LITTLE JOHN:
Give me your riches
MAN:
I don’t think I’ll give you anything
*Everyone leaps out*
ROBIN HOOD
Would you like to think again?
LITTLE JOHN
Come on give us your jewels
FRIAR TUCK
Give us your money
ALAN A’DALE
Give us everything of value
RAPPERS:
/now all the rich folks passing by
Gave up their riches with a cry
And robin and his marry band
Helped the poor throughout the land
Narrator:
Robin Hood’s band has collected a fair bit of money and Robin gave it to them gave to many of the poor
people in town
Now to find some more poor people here comes someone she looks poor
ROBIN:
‘Hold there, you look in need”
MAN:
“ I certainly am!’
ROBIN HOOD:
“Just a second! Don’t I know you? Haven’t I seen you before?”
MAN:
“Well, you robbed me! You’ve taken so much from me that I’m poor now”
ALAN A’DALE:
I’ll take that something is wrong here
If we steal from the rich and give it to the poor, the poor will become rich and the rich will become poor
then we gonna take some honey from the who are now rich and give it to the rich who are now the poor
come again
Narrator: In all the confusion the king Richard the lionheart suddenly appeared. He had just returned
from the crusades. Robin Hood told Richard about all that had happened since he left
/he heard the things prince john had done
The sheriff to the nasty one
His people (were) so poor so sad
A situation’s very bad’
Narrator: ‘When king Richard heard this, he gave orders for prince John and the sheriff of Nottingham to
be taken to a custody’
