CHAPTER - 1
DOCUMENT OF LIFE

Can one's life be a document? No doubt, the life of the Prophet (PBUH) is the
basis of life for Muslims of all times. The Qur'an is the first book of Deen ul Islam
and Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) was the prophet appointed by Allah to teach
the people the messages of the Qur'an. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has showed
how to live according to the instructions of the Holy Qur'an. It can be said that
the life of the Prophet (PBUH) is the explanation of the Qur'an. So knowing
Prophethood is also very important for a Muslim.

We cannot live Islamically without understanding the life of Prophet Muhammad

(PBUH). So the Companions tried to find out as much as they could about the
Prophet. They passed on what they learned to future generations. Later
generations started collecting and writing down the words and deeds of the
Prophet which were passed down from the disciples of the Prophet. These are
the hadiths.

Is Prophethood only words?

The name we have given to Hadith in Malayalam is 'Nabivachanangal'. Is the

hadith just the words of the Prophet? Never. Prophet's instructions to do or not
to do something, description of historical events related to the Prophet, the
essence of the Holy Prophet's words, speeches, letters, deeds, tacit approval etc.
are all mentioned in the hadith.

How was the hadith formed?

The Prophet and his followers lived in close proximity. Any of the followers would
be with the Prophet in the Mosque, market and on the journey. They observed
the life of the Prophet very carefully. They studied the words and deeds of the
Prophet. They memorized it by heart and told it to the people. This is how Hadith
was formed as a branch of knowledge.

We should study Hadith just as we study Qur'an. Without studying Hadith, one
cannot understand the Qur'an or practice Islam properly in one's life. That is why
the earlier scholars took great efforts to compile the prophetic deeds in book
form. Behind every hadith we can see stories of many people's efforts. There are
great men who have gone on long quests and journeys to find out a particular
hadith is correct or not.

Narration :

Narration (‫ )رواية‬refers to hearing hadiths from the Prophet and passing them on
to someone else. The Sahabi who receives the hadith passes it on to other
Sahabi. The next generation receives from them. Through this unbroken series it
reaches the hands of the hadith collector. This process is called hadith narration.
The person who transmits the hadith is called the narrator (‫)راوي‬.

Abu Huraira (RA) is one of the Prophet's disciples who narrated the most number
of hadiths.

PRACTICE
Fill in blanks :

1. The first document in Islam is …………………………………………………………..

2. In Malayalam Hadith is called as ……………………………………………………….
3. The persons who transmit the hadith are called………………………………..
4. ……………………..… is the person who reported most of the hadeeth as he got
opportunity to serve the prophet.

Let us answer :
1. What is Narration ?
2. Why do we study Hadith ?

IMAN MATTERS

Narrated by Omar (RA), Jibreel (AS) asked the Prophet (PBUH); What is Iman
The Holy Prophet said: You believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, His Prophets,
the Last Day and in destiny, both good and bad. Then Jibriel said to the Holy
Prophet: “What you have said is true. Narrated Umar: "We were amazed at that.
A man asks the Prophet (PBUH) questions and verifies the answer!" Umar said:
Then the Prophet (PBUH) said to us: "That is Jibril. He has come to teach you
the signs and foundations of your Deen (Ahmad).

That is Jibreel. He has come to teach the ‫ اتاكم يعلمكم معالم دينكم‬,‫ذاك جبريل‬
signs of your Deen (the foundations).

Who created and take care of us? Who gave us sight and hearing? Who has
provided facilities for us to live? You know the answers of all these questions,
ALLAH. We should know Allah who created us. His commands must be obeyed.
This is the greatest thing we humans can do. So a Mu'min is one who accepts
Allah and lives in obedience to Him. There are some basic things that one must
believe in if one wants to be a Mu'min. Those are called Iman Matters. We learn
those things in this hadith.

Believing in Allah means: There is a power called Allah. Believe that He is the
Creator and Sustainer of the universe, there is no one equal to Allah, and accept
that no one has a share in the attributes or authority of Allah.

Angels were created before humans. We cannot see angels in their true form.
When Allah wills, He will make them appear in human form. Jibriel (AS) is the
leader of the angels. Angels are carrying many responsibilities in this universe
according to the command of Allah. We must firmly believe this.

Now let us think about faith in the holy books. In addition to appointing
prophets, Allah has revealed holy books to show people the right path. The last
of them is the Qur'an. Accept the Qur'an as divine and copy it in life. Along with
that, we should also believe in the holy books that are revealed from Allah and
mentioned in the Qur'an. Zabur, Taurat and Injeel are holy books that presented
in different periods. But with the arrival of the final holy book the Qur'an, the
rules of the earlier holy books became obsolete. Faith in holy books is part of
faith in prophets.

Prophets are human beings appointed by Allah to deliver His guidance to

mankind, and this assignment is called Risalat. Allah gave instructions to those
who were chosen like this through Vahiyy. They passed them on to other people.
More than 100,000 prophets were assigned in the world. Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) is the last prophet in that series. All other prophets except Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) were assigned to a particular time or region only. But
Muhammad (PBUH) is the prophet for all mankind till the last day. As believers,
we have an obligation to accept all past prophets and practice the messages of
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in our lives.

This world also has an end just as humans and other living beings have an end.
It is called Yaumul Akhir. After that, Allah will resurrect all mankind. Then we will
be in another world. It is called the Hereafter. How can a person who believes in
Allah not believe in the Hereafter? Life does not end with death. After death the
second phase of our life begins. Allah will judge us on the day when we will all
be gathered together. Our actions will be judged and rewarded and punished

Page | 5

Confidential
accordingly. Those who gain the favor of Allah will be given Paradise and those
who do not will be given Hell. It will be a life without end.

Belief in Destiny is a part of belief in Allah. It is to believe that all of our things,
whether they be harmful or beneficial, happen according to the will of Allah.
Every thing in our life is happening with the knowledge of Allah. Those who have
this faith will not be disappointed in life. This is the core of belief in destiny. The
believer is bound to accept it.

What have we learned ?

• The basic things to believe in Islam are called Iman matters.
• Through believing in Iman matters, we will become true
believers.
• Belief in Eman matters can help us to make big changes in our
life.
• Those who have firm faith will be less disappointed in life.

1. What are the matters of Imaan?

2. What is the purpose of believing in the fate of Allah?
3. What is Risalat ?
4. What are the things should be considered while believing in Allah?

CHAPTER - 3
THE PATH OF HOLLINESS

To be a Muslim one should must believe in Iman matters. That belief must
control our thoughts and desires. Whenever we decide anything, we should have
the thought of Allah.

Listen to a verse heard from the Prophet by the prophet’s uncle, Abbas (RA).

One who is satisfied with God as his Lord, with Islam as his religion, and with
Muhammad as his Messenger has enjoyed the taste of Iman (Muslim)

Vocabulary :
Taste (sweetness) ‫طعم‬
Enjoyed ‫ذاق‬
Satisfied ‫رضي‬

Narrated by Abbas Ibin Abdul-Muttalib ‫عن العباس بن عبد المطلب‬

He heard the Messenger of Allah say ‫انه سمع رسول هللا صلي هللا عليه و‬
‫سلم يقول‬
Enjoyed the taste of Iman ‫ذاق طعم االيمان‬
One who is satisfied with Allah as Lord ‫من رضي باهلل ربا‬
Islam as Deen (system of life) ‫وباالسالم دينا‬
Muhammad as messenger ‫وبمحمد رسوال‬

Understanding Allah correctly is the first step of Iman. We should not assume
that Iman is complete if we only accept that Allah exists, he is the One who
created and maintains this universe, and he is the one who provides food for all.
We should happily accept Allah as all in all. There should be a firm belief that
Allah will be with you even if there is no one to help you. We should be able to
decide that we will live only by respecting the will of Allah and that we will give
priority to the interest of Allah in any matter. When we say ”Allah” there should

Page | 7

be more love in our hearts than we have when we say “umma” and “uppa”.
These are the first things that are needed to enjoy the sweetness of Iman.
Islam is the way of life for all mankind from Allah. This is the system of life in
which everything is consistent. In any matter of life, the instructions of Islam
should be accepted. So going forward we should not be concerned about any
possible losses. Islam should not be abandoned for the trivial pleasures and
profits of living on this earth. A true Muslim can make such a decision. It's not
just about making a decision, it's about living by it is the second step to taste
the sweetness of faith.

The prophet Muhammed (PBUH), who spread Allah’s message, by bearing all the
insults and ridicule of the enemies is our guide. The person I love the most is
prophet Muhammed (PBUH). I am ready to accept the teachings of the Holy
Prophet. Because, Prophet Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. So I will give
due consideration to the instructions of prophet. Deciding and implementing it is
the third step to enjoy the sweetness of Iman.

Only when the above three are combined, we can enjoy Iman in the right way.

System of life

A system of life is a set of rules and practices that one should follow in his life
based on an ideal. Islam is a system of life that gives correct instructions in
everything from birth to death. The system of life is called Deen in Arabic.

What have we learned?

• A true believer loves Allah immensely.

• A true believer sees Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as an example
• A true believer follows the instructions of Islam in any matter.

PRACTICE

Let's find the answer :

1. What are the three ways to taste Iman?

2. What changes will happen in our life when we accept Allah as Lord?
3. How should Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) be accepted as a Messenger?
4. Why is Islam called a system of life?
5. What is the Arabic name for the living system?

Write in correct order :

‫من ذاق ربا وباالسالم طعم دينا باهلل رسوال االيمان وبمحمد رضي‬

CHAPTER - 4
THE HOUSE OF ISLAM

By believing in the matters of Iman, one has attained the qualifications of

becoming a Muslim. Now we have to live according to that belief. When a
person becomes a Muslim, his whole life should be according to the instructions
of Allah. The word Muslim means one who obeys. There are five things that
must be followed to become a Muslim. These are the pillars of Islam.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar (RA). Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said: Islam is
built on five things:

1. Bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (PBUH)
is the Messenger of Allah.
2. Maintain prayer.
3. Give zakat.
4. Perform Hajj.
5. Fasting in Ramadan.

Vocabulary:-

Narrated by Ibn Umar ‫عن ابن عمر رضي هللا عنهما‬
The Messenger of Allah said ‫قال رسول هللا صلي هللا عليه و سلم‬

Maintain praying ‫واقام الصالة‬
Give Zakat ‫وايتاء الزكاة‬
Perform Hajj ‫والحج‬
Fast in Ramadan ‫وصوم رمضان‬

The above hadith explains the importance of Islamic matters. In this hadith,
Islam is introduced as the five pillars of Deen. This means, it is on these pillars
the house of Islam is built.

Reciting Shahadat Kalima and keeping it in mind, is the first thing in Islam.
Shahadat is the belief that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (PBUH) is
the messenger sent by Allah to convey the Deen of Allah to the people.
Knowing and accepting the meaning of this verse and uttering it, one enters
Islam.

Shahadat Kalima

‫أشهد أن ال اله اال هللا وأشهد أن محمدا رسول هللا‬

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad
(PBUH) is the Messenger of Allah.

Prayer is the second pillar of Islam. It is obligatory for every Muslim to pray
five times a day. The main purpose of prayer is to keep the remembrance of
Allah constant. So prayer prevents people from doing bad things.

The third is Zakat. Zakat is an obligatory annual donation of a portion of

wealth. It is to show gratitude for Allah's blessings and to help the poor. The
practice of zakat is to collect it from the rich and distribute it to the poor.

Hajj is the worship performed in the premises of the Kaaba, the first mosque
built to worship Allah. Hajj is obligatory for those who have the money, travel
facilities and health to go to Makkah. People of different colors, languages and
nationalities worship there with one mind with the memories of Prophet
Ibrahim, Prophet Ismail and Hajarabivi. Thus, Hajj becomes a sign of world
brotherhood.

In accordance with Allah's command, we fast in Ramadan by abstaining from

food and drink throughout the day and engaging in worship. The fasting person
should give up wrong speech and action. It is very virtuous to do more Sunnah
prayers, recitation of the Qur'an, dhikr, dua and charity during Ramadan. Self-
control and refinement of character is possible through fasting.

The position of the five pillars of Islam is same as the pillars which holds a
building. However, the building has a foundation, walls, roof and other
elements. Like this, Islam is complete when all the five pillars of Islam are
done along with many other things.

CHAPTER - 5
GATE TO HEAVEN

Mothers bring us up with immense love. Do you remember what hardships they
endure for us? How much hardship they must have endured to raise us and
grow us in our childhood days? Shouldn't we love mother in return?

Note a hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah (R):

A man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and asked: O Prophet, who among the
people deserves the best of my company? Prophet said: Your mother. He
asked: And then who? Prophet said. Again your mother. He asked: And then
who? Prophet said: Again your mother. And then who? Prophet said; then your
father (Muslim).

Vocabulary:-

Goodness, excellence ‫حسن‬

Companionship ‫صحابة‬
Most deserving ‫أحق‬
Liability ‫حق‬

Narrated by Abu Huray (RA). He said: ‫عن أبي هريرة قال‬

A man came to the Prophet and asked ‫جاء رجل الي رسول هللا صلي هللا عليه‬
‫وسلم فقال‬
Who is the most deserving of people? ‫من أحق الناس‬
For my excellent company ‫بحسن صحابتي‬

He asked: And then who? ‫قال ثم من‬
Prophet said: Again your mother " ‫قال " ثم أمك‬
He asked: And then who? ‫قال ثم من‬
Prophet said: Then your father " ‫قال " ثم أبوك‬

Our parents have suffered a lot for us. Therefore, after Allah and His
Messenger, parents have the most obligations. Our Prophet (PBUH) taught that
the greatest responsibility among parents is to the mother. Because, it is the
Mother who suffered most for us from conception to adulthood.

Which service rendered by parents can we deny? Think about pregnancy,

childbirth, breastfeeding, treatment, sleep deprivation, food, clothing,
education, etc…. Can they be replaced by billions of rupees?

What do we have in our hands to replace the mother's breast milk? What is the
substitute given for the mother who didn't get angry when we defecated on the
blanket and cleaned it and caressed us and nursed us without sleep when we
were sick?

Always maintain a good relationship with your parents. Don't make them hate
you. Especially in old age. Do we find it difficult to clean their stools and urine
while lying sick? Do their whining and coughing disturb us? Let us remember
that once upon a time we were like that and it did not cause any difficulty to
our parents. Allah is pleased with the satisfaction of parents at all times. If you
suffer from the anger of your parents, Allah will also be angry.

We should always pray for the good of our parents. The good things we do for
our parents can lead to divine help in difficult times.

Offsprings pray for their parents

‫اللهم اغفرلي ولوالدي‬

O Allah forgive me and my parents!

‫رب ارحمهما كما ربياني صغيرا‬

My Lord, have mercy on them both; Like they took care of me when I
was a baby.

An Ansari Companion once asked their Prophet (PBUH): Will it be possible for
me to maintain good relations with my parents even after death?
The Prophet (PBUH) said: Yes, if you do four things you can satisfy the dead.

1. Participate in their Janasa Prayer.

2. Pray to Allah to forgive them.
3. Fulfill their wishes and Wasiyath.
4. Establish good relations with their friends and relatives.

What have we learned?
- Be kind to your parents and do whatever they need.
- Our salvation in the Hereafter depends on our behavior towards
our parents

PRACTICE
Write the answers:-

1. In the hadith in the lesson, the father is mentioned after mentioning

Umma three times. Why would this be?
2. What was the Prophet's (PBUH) answer to the question whether it is
possible to maintain good relations with parents even after their death?
3. Which prayer is introduced by the Qur'an as performed for parents by
their children?

CHAPTER - 6
DEAR FATHER

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr. The Prophet (PBUH) said: The satisfaction of the
Lord is in the satisfaction of the father. The hatred of the Rabb is in the hatred
of the Father (Tirmidhi).

Vocabulary :-

Satisfied ‫رضي‬
Father ‫والد‬
Hate, anger ‫سخط‬

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr ‫عن عبد هللا بن عمر‬

From the Prophet (PBUH), he said ‫عن النبي صلي هللا عليه و سلم قال‬
The Rabb's satisfaction is in the ‫رضي الرب في رضي الوالد‬
father’s satisfaction

The hatred of the rabb is in the hatred ‫وسخط الرب في سخط الوالد‬
of the father

A father's place in a child's development can never be forgotten. Our illnesses

and hardships can grieve fathers as well as mothers. Moreover, the children's
food, clothing, education, treatment, etc. are all under the responsibility of the
father.

So, our courtesy to the father is not small. Children who do not talk to their
father, children who enter from the back when the father is at the front of the
house, children who do not like to travel with their father, children who
hesitate to sit near their father, children who send their parents to old age
homes despite their wealth and comforts, there are many types of children who
neglect their father and mother. These are crimes committed against them. If
we treat them without mercy, Allah may punish us in this world itself.

The greatest joy in life for a Muslim is to be pleased with Allah. If we want to
please Allah, we must please the Father. If our father hates us, it means that
Allah also hates us.

Allah taught not to even say 'che' to parents. There should be no look or
speech from our side that hurts them.

What have we learned?

CHAPTER - 7
CLEANLINESS

The Qur'an declares that Allah love those who are clean and the repentant.
Cleanliness is not only necessary for worship matters. The instruction of Islam
is to always keep the body, clothes and surroundings clean.

Narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (PBUH)
said: If it were not difficult for my people, I would have ordered them to brush
their teeth with every ablution. (Bukhari).

Vocabulary :-

be pleased with him). He said
The Messenger of Allah said ‫قال رسول هللا صلي هللا عليه و سلم‬
If it where not troubling my people ‫لوال انا أشق علي أمتي‬
I will tell them to brush their teeth ‫ألمرتهم بالسواك‬
At the instance of each Wudu ‫عند كل وضوء‬

Islam is a culture where clealiness is important. Therefore, Islam does not like
living environment with waste and filth. Unhygienic living habits can cause
diseases. Muslims should always be safe from such conditions that destroy our
health. When you live in a community, you have to interact with many people.
There should be no occasion to speak ill of us.

In a hadith narrated by Abu Ayyub (RA): The Prophet once came to us and
said: “Those who clean between their teeth among my people are praised.

Page | 17

When asked who they were, the Prophet said: “Those who clean between their
teeth after eating and during Wudu. (Ahmed)

Abu Malik al-Ashari (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah said ‫أطهور شطر االيمان‬
(Cleanliness is half of Iman). Islam gives importance to personal hygiene and
environmental cleanliness. As a part of this, we usually observe in our life such
as teeth cleaning, Wudu, bathing, washing after excrement, washing clothes,
cutting nails, cutting hair etc...

Environmental cleanliness is as important as personal hygiene. Environmental

pollution is a big problem today. Islam gives strict instructions to eliminate
such problems. Do not defecate on the public road, bathing water, shade of
trees or stagnant water. All that pollutes the environment and is not good for
humans and other living beings are some actions which include in this.

Wearing nice and clean clothes, combing the hair, cleaning the house and
surroundings, keeping household items orderly, not strewing books and
clothes, and taking care not to get dirt on the clothes are all things that Islam
has given special attention to.

Prophet has banned littering and defecating in the places which are useful for
people such as public places, roads, shade etc..

What have we learned?

• Cleanliness is very important in Islam.

• Islam gives strict instructions on cleaning teeth.
• It is not only the person should be clean, but the environment
should also be clean.

PRACTICE
Write the meaning :-

ETIQUETTE WHILE EATING

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar (RA). The Prophet said: If one of you eats, let
him eat with his right hand. Drink water with his right hand. Surely the
Shaithaan eats and drinks with the left (Muslim).

Islam gives special instructions even for common things like eating food,
drinking water and spitting. Food is one of the most important blessings given
by Allah. So respect the food. We should thank Allah for giving it.

It is the culture of Islam to prioritize right side in all good things. It is Shaitan
who eats and drinks with his left hand. A Muslim should never agree with the
accursed devil.

Islam teaches many etiquettes to be followed while eating food and drinking
water. While eating or drinking water, one should say ‫ بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم‬at
the beginning and praise Allah at the end. Clean your hands and remember
Allah who gave you food, eat and drink with the right hand, when several
people eat from a bowl together, eat from the portion in front of him, eat as
much as possible from the bowl, wait for others to finish, don't waste food, and
don't blow on the water you drink, do not blame the food and just sit down
while eat and drink. These are just some of those manners.

The Prophet's advice is not to criticize the food if it is bad. At the same time,
there is nothing wrong in advising about fluctuations with love.

Prayer after meal

‫الحمد هلل الذي أطعمني هذا ورزقنيه من غير حول مني وال قوة‬
All praise be to Allah who fed me this and gave it to me without any
ability or power of mine.

What have we learned?

• Start with "Bismillahi" while eating.

• One should eat and drink with the right hand.
• All good things must begin with the right side.

1. Write the prayer after eating with meaning ?

2. Make a list and write in your notebook what you learned in the lesson about
rules and etiquette related to food ?

CHAPTER - 9
EVIL THAT BURNS THE GOOD

The Prophet (PBUH) was sitting with his Companions. The Prophet said to the
Companions who were listening to the teachings: Now you will see a person
who is going to get heaven, he will come here now. Soon a man entered.
People looked at him with respect. He was an ordinary man from Madina. No
one could see any particular glory in him.

The next day also the Prophet (PBUH) said that a person who will inherit
Paradise will come now. After a while, the same man who came the previous
day arrived. This was repeated on the third day.

'What virtue does this man do just to secure heaven? Many wanted to know. A
Companion named Abdullahibn Amt (RA) stayed as a guest in his house in
order to know this secret. After spending three days, Abdullah Ibnu Amr could
not find anything special about him, different from other Muslims. Finally, he
thought to ask him. Ibn Amr told him what the Prophet had said. Then he
asked: “Tell me, what do you think will help you to get heaven?

The Companion said: “I do not go to bed with a grudge against any Muslim. If
Allah does good to someone, I am not jealous of it.

The following hadith also tells about the evils of jealousy:

Narrated by Zubair Ibin ul Awwami (RA). The Prophet (PBUH) said: The
diseases of the societies before you, such as envy and hatred, will creep into
you. It will shave. I'm not saying it shaves hair. Rather Deen will be shaved
(Tirmidhi)

Vocabulary :-

Disease ‫داء‬
Will shave and destroy ‫تحلق‬
Jealousy ‫الحسد‬
Creep ‫دب‬
Societies ‫أمم‬
The hair ‫الشعر‬
Hate ‫البغضاء‬
Page | 22

Narrated by Zubair Ibn ul Awwam ‫عن الزبير بن العوام‬
The Prophet (PBUH) said ‫أن النبي صلي هللا عليه و سلم قال‬
has crept in to you ‫دب اليكم‬
The disease of the societies before you ‫داء األمم قبلكم‬
Jealousy and hatred ‫الحسد والبغضاء‬
It is shaving ‫هي الحالقة‬
I don't say ‫ال أقول‬
That it will shave off the hair ‫تحلق الشعر‬
On the contrary, it will shave the Deen ‫ولكن تحلق الدين‬

The evil of envy can destroy one's whole goodness. Jealousy and grudge can
drive away those close to you and push those who are far away further apart.

There are two types of jealousy. One is to be upset with the blessing others
have received and wish to remove that blessing from him. Do you know what
the second type of jealousy is? Wish to receive the blessing that Allah has
given to others. The former is bad and the latter is good.

The mind of the first-mentioned jealous person is not to accept any good of
others. An envious person always wishes to see the goodness and
achievements of his friend, neighbour or relative destroyed. So he will try his
best to find out and talk about his opponent's flaws. Gradually grudge and
hatred will accumulate in the mind. It will eventually destroy his Deen.

There are many reasons for jealousy. Among them are pride, enmity, anxiety
that others rise above oneself, ambition for leadership, ambition for position,
etc.

By being envious, one does not accept Allah's judgment and justice and His
blessings upon His servants. So envy becomes a protest against Allah.

Resentment and hatred are just as bad as jealousy. Grudge will become a
reason to destroy our good deeds and to spend time to destroy others when we
are supposed to do good things. Any Resentment or anger towards someone
in any context lingers in the mind for a long time If kept, it will turn into
Grudge. As a result of grudge he will have many bad qualities. Envy, ridicule,
slander, mental or physical abuse, breaking of family ties etc.. are some of
them. None of these things belongs to a true Muslim.

Page | 23

Confidential
Envy and hatred are the beginning of all evils. A true believer should try not to
allow such bad habits to enter in to our mind and thoughts. We should pray to
Allah not to become jealous and grudge persons and to be saved from the
harm of the envious. There is such a prayer in Suratul Falaq.

What have we learned?

• It is not the nature of a true believer to be jealous of the

advantages others receive.
• Envy corrupts the mind and destroys virtues.

PRACTICE
Let's write the answer :-

1. Why is it said that jealousy destroys all good things?

2. What are the two types of jealousy?

Fill in the blanks :-

1. A cause of jealousy is…………………….

(Enmity / Love)
2. It is a surah with a prayer against the envious………………
(Suratul Falaq / Surathunnas)
3. Who observe the Companion who is sure to go to Heaven…………………….
(Amrubnul Asw / Abdulla Ibn Amr)

True or false?

• Jealousy is the beginning of all evils.

• Jealousy can make a man more active.
• Jealousy can destroy pride.
• He who is not jealous is a true Muslim.

CHAPTER - 10
HAVE A SMILE FOR OTHERS

Who wouldn't be happy to see a smiling face? A smile can calm any angry
person.

Narrated by Abu Dharr: The Prophet (pbuh) said to me: Do not take any of the
good things for granted. Even meeting your brother with a smiling face.
(Muslim).

Vocabulary :-

Good ‫معروف‬
You meet ‫تلقي‬
Don’t take it for granted ‫التحقرن‬
One thing ‫شيئ‬
Smiling, cheerful ‫طلق‬

Narrated by Abu Darr. He said ‫عن أبي ذر قال‬

The Prophet (PBUH) said to me ‫قال لي النبي صلي هللا عليه و سلم‬
Do not take any of the good things for ‫ال تحقرن من المعروف شيئا‬
granted.
Even meeting your brother with a ‫ولو أن تلقي أخاك بوجه طلق‬
smiling face

A smile costs nothing. But many people are not ready for it. But this hadith
teaches that even that is rewarded by Allah. It is said that many a drop is a lot
of water. Don't take anything for lightly. It is the same with doing good. A
Muslim cannot think that doing only big big good deeds is enough and that
small small good things are not necessary.

One should try to do all good deeds with importance regardless of size. No
matter how small the evil is, it should not be taken lightly and turn away from
it. Because it is seen in the hadith that minor sins should be avoided and those
who take them lightly will eventually end up in hell. A small hole is enough to
sink a large ship.

Allah has said in Suratul Ma'oon that those who prevent doing small deeds are
those who detract Deen.

Many virtues of a believer become clear only when dealing with people. Greet
others when you see them. Talk to them with a smile. Even if there is no time
to say anything, there is no obstacle for us to reserve a smile for them.

What have we learned?

• Don't waste an opportunity to do good even if it is small.

• Even if it is a small evil, it should be avoided.
• There is goodness even in a smile.

PRACTICE
Let's write the answer :-

1. Why is it said not to neglect trivial virtues?

2. How does the idea of the hadith in the lesson appear in Suratul Ma'oon?

Let's correct the sequence:-

CHAPTER - 11
MY CHOICE, THEIR CHOICE

Narrated by Anas (R). The Prophet (PBUH) said: None of you will be a believer
until what he loves for himself, he loves for his brother (Bukhari).

Vocabulary :-

For own ‫لنفسه‬

Likes ‫يحب‬

Narration from Anas (R) ‫عن أنس‬

From the Prophet (PBUH). He said ‫عن النبي صلي هللا عليه و سلم قال‬
None of you will be believers. ‫ال يؤمن أحدكم‬
Until he loves his brother ‫حتي يحب ألجيه‬
What he likes for himself ‫ما يحب لنفسه‬

One of the elements of a complete Iman is to consider all Muslims as brothers.

Prophet (PBUH) taught, when living as a community, it is not enough to
consider our own will, but also to consider the likes and dislikes of others.

Believers are brothers to each other. They are like members of a family. This
brotherhood between believers is a great feature of Islam. Every Muslim
considers other Muslims as his brothers and so there is love and unity between
them.

Humans generally want good things. Every one of us wants to be comfortable

and happy in this world and hereafter. A true Muslim is one who wants good for
his brother just as he wants good for himself. When Muslims love and help
each other in this way, they become worthy of Allah's praise. This hadith
teaches us that Iman cannot become true without this kind of friendship and
brotherhood.

Page | 27

We can see many examples of the generosity of giving to others from what we
have. Have you not heard that the people of Madinah helped the Muslim
brothers from Makkah who came to Madinah after Hijra who left their homes,
lands and wealth. People from Madina helped them with their houses and
money. At that time, many of the people of Madinah gave half of their houses
to those who came from Makkah. Some of the plantations were given to them.
Made them partners in their business. Money was lent to trade. Real Muslims
can do the above things. Because Islam teaches us to treat all human beings
as our own brothers.

You must behave similarly to your friends. Don't give your friends the things
you don't need. It is not a bad thing to do so. What Allah likes most and the
correct method of true believing is to give to others what we like.

What have we learned?

• Believers should love one another like children of the same

parents.
• A true believer’s Iman is completed only if he likes for his brother
just as he likes for himself.
• It is not enough for believers to only look out for their own
interests.

PRACTICE
Let's write the answer :-

1. What binds Muslims together

2. What are the benefits of brotherhood?
3. How did the people of Medina receive those who migrated from Mecca?
4. Have you had any experiences where you happily gave away something you
loved for someone else? Write a short note about your experience.

CHAPTER - 12
WHY QUARREL

Narrated by Anas Ibn Malik (R), The Prophet (PBUH) said: Do not hate each
other. Don't be jealous. Don't ignore each other and turn away. Servants of
Allah, become brothers. It is not permissible for a Muslim to leave his brother
(cut ties with his brother) for more than three days. (Bukhari)

Vocabulary :-

They were jealous of each other ‫تحاسد‬

Slaves ‫عباد‬
Leave ‫يهجر‬
Hated each other ‫تباغض‬
Ignored each other and turned away ‫تدابر‬
Is not allowed ‫اليحل‬

Allah's Messenger said ‫عن رسول هللا صلي هللا عليه و سلم قال‬
Don't hate each other ‫ال تباغضو‬
Do not be jealous of each other ‫وال تحاسدوا‬

Everyone likes to socialize and choose friends. Ones they become friends , then
they love each other immensely. Some can't spend even a short time without a
friend. For some people, they need a friend for everything. While laughing and
playing like this, some people suddenly get into a fight. There must have been
quarrels over trivial matters. If they quarreled, then they became like enemies.
When they see each other , they won’t talk.

Isn't it a pity that close friends are like enemies? Aren't all Muslims brothers?
Islam does not like Quarrel and anger between us. May there be love and
brotherhood between us

Hate, jealousy, neglect are things that break relationships. So, the Prophet
forbids them. If there is a conflict due to any reason, it should be resolved
immediately. Among those who have quarreled, the best one is the first to
restore relations by saying salam. After long time, the quarrel will turn into a
grudge. So, it is forbidden for a believer to quarrel with his brother for more
than three days.

The Qur'an forbids backbiting, accusing each other, and calling each other bad
names because they undermine mutual relationships.

What have we learned?

• A true Muslim is one who does not harm his brothers in any way.
• One should give up speech and actions that others do not like.
• There should be no hate speech or actions towards others.
• Muslims should not quarrel unnecessarily.

PRACTICE

Let's look at the lesson and fill it :-

1. Hatred, jealousy, neglect, etc are things that tear -----------apart. So,
they are forbidden by the Prophet. True believers should not stick to it
for more than --------- days. The best of the quarrel persons is the one
who says ------------------. As the duration increases quarrel will turn to

CHAPTER - 13
DON’T INTERFERE IN UNNEESSARY THINGS

Ali ibn Husain (RA) narrates from his father. The Prophet (PBUH) said: One's
Islamic virtue is to leave things that do not affect him (Ahmad).

Vocabulary :-

The Person ‫مرء‬

Applies, affects ‫يعنى‬
Superiority ‫حسن‬
Abandonment ‫ترك‬

Ali ibn Husain narrates from his father ‫ رضي هللا‬, ‫ عن أبيه‬,‫عن علي بن حسين‬
(from Husain). He said.
‫عنه قال‬
The Messenger of Allah said ‫قال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬
one's Islamic virtue includes ‫من حسن اسالم المرء‬
to leave things that do not affect him ‫تركه ما ال يعنيه‬

Some people are curious about anything. Wherever and whatever is going on,
they need to know everything. If they see two people talking, they will reach
there. Often such intrusions can cause difficulties for others. As for some, it is
like saying that they caught the snake lying on the fence and put it on their
shoulder. The habit of these people is to get caught up in unnecessary things.
The sign of discipline is not to indulge in unnecessary things.

The interest of Allah governs all the affairs of a Muslim. A Muslim should do
everything on the basis of obedience to Allah. Such a person cannot fail to
remember Allah while doing anything. Abstaining from unnecessary things
should also be done with the awareness that Allah knows everything.

What man does should be useful to himself or his society. It is not right to
engage in actions or speech that are of no benefit to anyone. We must

remember that eyes, ears, limbs, mind and brain are to be used only with care
according to the will of Allah and they will be judged in the Hereafter.

The Qur'an says that abstaining from unnecessary things is a sign of the
believers.

"Successful are the believers who are devout in their prayer, turn away from
what is unnecessary, and pay the zakat." (Al-Mu'minun 1-4)

Abstaining from things that do not apply to him is a sign that one has Iman
inside him. Such people will be under the special protection of Allah.

What have we learned?

• Abstaining from things that do not apply to him is a sign of a true

believer.
• Those who think that Allah is watching, do not indulge in
unnecessary things.

PRACTICE

CHAPTER - 14
DON’T SAY BAD WORDS

Some will say bad words if they quarrel. Some will shout words that are
disgusting to those who hear them without hesitation. And some will say
things that hurt others. A true believer should not be anything like this.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masood (RA). The Prophet (PBUH) said: A believer is
not one who says harsh words, does not curse, does not speak indecently, and
does not speak obscenity (Bukhari, Al-Adabul Mufrad).

Vocabulary :-

He who curses ‫لغان‬

One who speaks Obscenity ‫بذيء‬
One who says harsh words ‫طعان‬
One who speaks indecently ‫فاحش‬

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masood. He ‫ قال‬, ‫عن عبد هللا بن مسعود‬

said:
The Messenger of Allah said: ‫قال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬
A true believer is not one to speak ‫ليس المؤمن بالطعان‬
harsh words
Not a curser ‫وال اللعان‬
Not One who speaks indecently ‫وال الفاحش‬
Not One who speaks Obscenity ‫وال البذيء‬

A true believer will have good character. Qualities like honesty, loyalty, justice
and humility will be united in a true believer. He will not have any bad qualities
like lying, fraud, cheating, pride etc. "The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
"The one who has the most perfect Iman among the believers is the one who
has the best character among them.

Page | 33

This hadith clarifies some bad habits that should not be present in believers.
Slandering, cursing, speaking Indecently, speaking obscenity etc. cannot be
seen in a true believer. If someone has these characteristics, it means that his
Iman is weak.

There are some people who blame others in any matter. It is a bad habit. If
you see people doing a good thing, you should encourage it and if you see a
mistake, try to correct it with goodwill. Instead of looking at what is wrong and
lacking in everyone and pointing it out and accusing people.

The Prophet once said: 'It is a great sin to scold one's parents. The
Companions asked: O Prophet, does anyone scold his own parents? The
Prophet (PBUH) said: Some will scold. Like he will scold another person’s father
and that person will scold his father in response. He will scold his mother. Like
he will scold another person’s mother and that person will scold his mother in
response (Bukhari, Muslim).

Some people are very fond of obscenity-laced conversation. It is not

appropriate for a true believer to say obscenity and enjoy it, whether it is funny
or not. Saying indecent and obscene are also bad characters that believers
should avoid. Persons who have such bad character are spreading evil among
the people. The Prophet (PBUH) taught that those who speak should either
speak good or remain silent.

This is the time when obscenity and evil are spreading a lot through media
such as newspapers, movies, television and internet. It leads people to the
wrong. Allah hates those who spread evil.

What have we learned?

• A true believer is not one who blames, mocks and curses people.
• Words should be used very carefully.

PRACTICE
Let's write the answers :-

1. What is Islam's position on those who spread obscenity and evil?

2. Even if we do not slander our own parents, the same situation may arise
as if we slander our parents. Where does that happen?

Match the followings :-

One who speaks indecently ‫طعان‬

He who utters harsh words ‫لعان‬
He who curses ‫فاحش‬
He who speak obscenity ‫بديء‬

CHAPTER - 15
WHEN THE GAME BECOME SERIOUS

Ashfaq always has a smiling face. He will talk to everyone. He likes everyone.
He hates nobody. His hobby is making everyone laugh by telling jokes. He
often tells small lies in addition to telling jokes to make people laugh. On
occasions like April Fool's, he has made a lot of people mad. Ashfaq does not
lie except for fun. He does not like lying. Ashfaq doesn't think there's anything
wrong with lying for fun. But what is the attitude of Islam to that?

Narrated by Bahs Ibin Hakim (RA). My father told me that his father stated: I
heard the Prophet (PBUH) saying. Woe to him who lies in his speech to make
people laugh. Damn him. Damn him (Abudawud)

Vocabulary :-

He speak ‫يحدث‬
Damn ‫ويل‬
To make laugh ‫يضحك‬
Say lie ‫يكذب‬
People ‫قوم‬

Narrated by Bahs Ibn Hakim ,he said. ‫ قال‬, ‫عن بهز بن حكيم‬

Islam teaches us to tell the truth no matter how bitter experiences await us. No
day has been set aside from it. Yet how lightly many people treat April 1st as a
day that they are allowed to lie.

The above hadith itself is enough to understand the consequences of lying even
for fun. The Prophet (PBUH) said that lying to those who believe our words is a
serious deception and telling lie is a sign of a hypocrite.

Even a small lie cannot be taken lightly. A hadith reported by Asma' (RA) is as
follows: I asked the Prophet (PBUH). Is it considered lying if someone says, I
don't like a thing that actually I like? In response to that question, the Holy
Prophet said: A lie will be recorded as a lie and small lies will be recorded as
such (Ahmad). The Prophet has also warned against gathering small lies and
labeling him as a "liar".

At least some do little tricks to get children or pets to obey. Abdullah ibn Amir
(RA) says. One day my mother called me. At that time, the Prophet (PBUH)
was sitting in our house. Umma said: Come here, I will give you something.
Then the prophet (PBUH) asked: What did you intend to give him? Umma said:
I intend to give him a Date fruit. Then the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said: If you
had not given him anything, a lie would have been recorded in your name.
(Abu Dawud)

Some even go as far as to celebrate fooling days to make people laugh. Those
who lie to people for at least one day a year for a little fun, remember, in the
sight of Allah, you are lying.

What have we learned?

• Good speech is a sign of a true believer.
• Silence is better than evil talk.
• If something is said, say good.
• Don't lie, even as a joke.

PRACTICE
Comment :-
1. Evaluate the April Fool's Day celebration based on the hadiths in the
text.
2. What do you think about telling small lies to small children to keep them
from crying and as part of loving them?

CHAPTER - 16
KEEP ORDER AND DISCIPLINE

Islam teaches that there should be order and system in our life. No matter
whatever thing we check, there is a way that Islam likes it. From waking up in
the morning to going to bed at night, Islam provides legal instructions for
everything that a man does.

Narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). She said, The Prophet
(PBUH) liked to give priority to the right side whenever possible. While
cleaning, combing hair, wearing shoes. (Al-Bukhari).

Vocabulary :-

Possible ‫استطاع‬
Combing hair ‫ترجل‬
Priority to right side ‫التيمن‬
Cleaning ‫طهور‬
Wearing, shoes ‫تنعل‬

Narrated by Aisha (PBUH). ‫ قالت‬, ‫عن عائشه‬

right side.
‫التيمن‬
As much as possible ‫ما استطاع‬
In all his affairs ‫في شأنه كله‬
While cleaning, combing hair and ‫في طهوره وترجله وتنعله‬
putting on shoes

There are some children. After leaving the school, the school bag is thrown
somewhere. Then, without even changing the uniform, they will start playing
immediately. After all, when you look through the books at night, some books
are nowhere to be found, no matter how much you search and search for the
pen, you won't find it. There is no order or system for anything. The bedroom

will be cluttered. Such bad habits are not suitable for Muslims. The distinctive
feature of Muslims is orderly, sorted and systematic life.

Islam instructs that all good things begin with the right side. This is a general
rule in Islam. For example, dressing, wearing shoes, bathing, sleeping,
combing hair, eating etc. It is part of the Islamic policy to give importance to
the right side when wearing pants, churidar, shirt etc.

Islam prescribes clear rules and regulations for everything we do on a daily

basis. Islam does not leave any matter related to life unmentioned. Everything
a man does from waking up in the morning to going to bed at night falls within
the purview of Islamic laws. Spitting is a very trivial act in life. The Prophet
(PBUH) has taught us where to spit, where to not spit and which side to spit.
We can see in the hadiths that the Prophet gave clear instructions regarding
defecation.

Islam instructs that there should be order and systematical in everything.

Islam instructs order and discipline in dress code, behavior and household
arrangements. Dressing carelessly, growing hair perversely and vulgarly,
imitating vulgar fashions does not suit the respectable lifestyle of a Muslim.

What are have we learned?

- Any good thing must start with the right side.

- In Islam, everything that is done on a daily basis is orderly and
systematic.

PRACTICE
Let's write the answer :-

1. Islam dictates order and discipline in everything. Can you explain this
statement with the help of some examples?
2. What are the specific instructions of Islam when it comes to dressing?
3. Islam gives priority to the right side. Find some examples to prove this
fact true.

GREETINGS THAT SPREAD LOVE
Do we remember that when someone says salam to us he is praying for us. By
saying salaam, they not only show their love for us. They also pray to Allah to
bless us.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) encouraged to say salam and maintaining love for
each other.

Narrated by Abu Huraira (RA). He said. The Prophet (PBUH) said: You will not
enter Paradise until you become believers. And you are not believers until you
love each other. May I inform you about a thing, if you practice it you will love
each other, and that is to spread Salam between you (Muslim)

Vocabulary :-

You love each other ‫تحاببتم‬

You will not enter ‫ال تدخلون‬
You worked ‫فعلتم‬
Between you ‫بينكم‬
Peace ‫السالم‬
You spread ‫أفشوا‬

Narrated by Abu Huraira (RA). He said ‫عن أبي هريرة قال‬

The Messenger of Allah said ‫قال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه و سلم‬
You will not enter heaven until you ‫ال تدخلون الجنة حتي تؤمنوا‬
become believers.
And you are not believers until you ‫وال تؤمنوا حتى تحابوا‬
love each other.
Can I inform you about a thing ‫أوال أدلكم على شيء‬
If you put it into practice, you will love ‫اذا فعلتموه تحاببتم‬
each other
Spread Salam among yourselves ‫أفسوا السالم بينكم‬

Page | 40

Confidential
Salam means peace and salvation etc. So, if you say ‘Assalamu Alaikum’ it
means may Allah's salvation and peace be upon you. Don't you understand that
this is not just a greeting like good morning, namaskar? When we greet them
back, we are also praying for them. Whenever you meet others, we are praying
for their goodness. Mutual love is growing between people who pray for the
good of others. That is why Islam gives so much importance to the greeting
Salam.

If you want to get heaven, you have to be a believer. But those who keep
hatred and grudge will not be a true believer. Believers should be loving and
well-wishing for each other. Saying salaam when meeting is a key to
maintaining love and respect between them. It is not a mere greeting.

If someone says salaam to us, we should be careful to return the salaam in a

better way. If you say ‫السالم عليكم‬, you should reply ‫ وعليكم السالم‬But it is good
to add ‫ ورحمة هللا وبركاته‬while replying to salam. The Prophet has also advised
to say salam to those whom we don’t know before. This is because it helps in
establishing untainted friendships.

When two people meet, the younger person should say Salam. Those with less
knowledge should say salam to those with more knowledge. Those who are
walking should say salam to those who are sitting. Those who are traveling in a
vehicle should say salam to those who are walking. To say salam to people
who you know and you don’t know is a part of excellent character.

If two groups meet, the smaller group should say salam to the larger group.
Not everyone in the group needs to say Salam. One person is enough to say
salam for everyone, and the same when returning Salam. Those who come to
the house or to an audience should say Salam. Those who leave the group or
the audience should say Salam to others. It is the same when two people meet
and then part.

What have we learned?

- Only those who have Iman will inherit heaven.

- True believers should love each another.

CHAPTER - 18
GOOD MIND AND GOOD LIFE

We are all believers. Because we believe in Allah. We believes in everything

Allah tells us to believe. Along with believing in this way, you should also do
things what Allah said. We should do many other good deeds along with the
obligatory things like namaz and fasting. Every good deed belongs to Islam. All
these are the signs of a Muslim. Our Iman becomes correct only when our
behavior is good along with our belief and doing good deeds.

Narrated by Abu Huraira (RA) The Prophet (PBUH) said: The one who has the
most complete Iman among the believers is the one with the best character
(Abu Dawud).

Vocabulary :-

Believer ‫مؤمن‬
Character ‫خلق‬
The most completed one ‫أكمل‬
The best ‫أحسن‬

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated, he said: ‫عن أبو هريرة قال‬

The Prophet (PBUH) said ‫قال رسول هللا صلى هللا عليه وسلم‬
Iman is the most perfect among the ‫أكمل المؤمنين ايمانا‬
believers
He who has the best character ‫أحسنهم خلقا‬

What is good character? Honesty, Loyalty, Humility, Discipline, Love, Kindness,

Generosity, Patience, Courage, Justice, keeping the contract, shyness, love to
God, pride, and diligence are some good qualities that we are familiar with to
denote good character. All these qualities should be present in the life of a
Muslim. Allah and Rasool have mentioned all these qualities as signs of
believers. when many qualities like these come together, one becomes a true
believer.

To be a good-charactered, one must be free from bad character. One does not
get the name ‘good natured’ without getting rid of bad habits. If you want to be
trustworthy, you must not cheat and fraud. Humility comes when ego is gone.
So the believer should leave all these bad qualities.

From this hadith, we can understand that if a person performs acts of worship
such as prayer and fasting, but at the same time bad habits remain in him, he
is not a true believer.

Bad habits easily take root in children. Because they are not aware enough
about its harms and dangers. In order to increase Iman in the mind, one should
always try to keep the Dikr, Duas and thought of God.

Each of us will have many good things. But more often, it's our bad things that
get people's attention than those good things. When others criticize our
character, don't get angry and check if it really matters when no one is around.
So turn away from actions that make our character worse. Do not try to justify
our bad deeds in front of others. It will cause us to continue in mistake.

Good traits can be imitated whether seen in adults or children. Because all good
deeds belong to the virtues of a Muslim. We need all of them to form our
personality. The best example to imitate is our beloved Prophet (PBUH). The
Qur'an has said that you have a good example in the Prophet.

What have we learned?

• Perfect is the Iman of one who has good character.

• Believers should always be careful to adopt good habits and avoid
bad habits.

CHAPTER - 19
MUSLIM IS THE PROTECTOR OF OTHERS

We have learned that Muslims should live with love for each other. Every
Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. When we say Salam, we pray for the
salvation of others. So should we do things that are harmful to others? Is it
right to harm a Muslim and make him suffer? If so, then what is the meaning
of saying that Muslims are brothers?

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr. The Prophet (PBUH) said: From whose tongue
and hand the Muslims are saved, he is a Muslim. A Muhajir is one who
abandons what Allah has forbidden (Bukhari)

Vocabulary :-

Hand ‫يد‬
Abandon ‫هجر‬
Save ‫سلم‬
Tongue ‫لسان‬
Forbidden ‫نهى‬

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr ‫ رضي هللا عنهما‬, ‫عن عبد هللا بن عمرو‬
From the Prophet (PBUH). He said ‫عن النبي صلى هللا عليه وسلم قال‬
From whose tongue and hand Muslims ‫المسلم من سلم المسلمون من لسانه ويده‬
are saved, he is a Muslim

A Muhajir is one who abandons what ‫والمهاجر من هجر ما نهى هللا عنه‬
Allah has forbidden

Harassment comes in many forms. Harassment through Tongue and hand are
the most prominent of these. A Muslim should stay away from any kind of
harassment. Slandering, mocking, despise, humiliating one's own brother and
saying lies and defamation about them, calumny etc., are all verbal abuses.
Such things will hurt the heart of the Muslim brother. It will create hatred and
distance between them. Therefore, we must leave all kinds of talk that causes
pain to our Muslim brothers.

Harassment through hand refers to harmful acts. Beating someone, stealing
goods and money, fighting, helping an opponent etc… all are wrong.

People are generally afraid of two things. One is damage to body and life.
Another is destruction of wealth. Most of the problems in the world are due to
these two fears. Once the man gets the faith that no one will harm him unjustly
and will not steal his wealth, he gets peace and harmony. A true Muslim will
never harm anyone unjustly in this way, but will also protect the life, pride and
wealth of others.

When a Muslim get in to a danger, It is not suitable for a believer to watch

without helping him. It is not enough for him not to harm, he must be able to
save from harm and comfort in difficult times.

If a person is a Muslim, everything that is valuable to Muslims should also be

valuable to him. Blood, money, and pride are all to be valued in this way. It is
the duty of the Muslim to ensure that all of them are safe. And he must use all
his power to prevent others from destroying them.

A Muslim will be prepared to abstain from sin for the sake of Allah's
satisfaction, no matter what the sacrifice. That is why he is said to be a
“Muhajir”.

What have we learned?

• A true Muslim is one who does not harm his brothers in any way.
• One should give up speech and actions that are unpleasant to
others.

CHAPTER - 20
GET RID OF EGO

The meaning of the word ‫ هللا أكبر‬is Allah is the Greatest. How insignificant are
we in front of the power of Allah. It is Allah who gave us all abilities. It is Allah
who gave strength to the strong, gave money to the rich, and gave beauty to
the beautiful. Some were given the ability to learn and understand better.
Others were given some other skills. Each of us is proud of our talents. That is
good. But because of these abilities I should not think that I am great and
others are insignificant. It is pride to do so. What right do we have to be proud
of what Allah has given us? Shouldn't we thank Allah for giving us those skills?

Narrated by Abdullah Bin Masood (RA). The Prophet (PBUH) said. He who has
an atom's worth of pride in his heart will not enter heaven. Someone asked:
One wants his clothes and shoes to be good (would that be prideful?). The
Prophet said: “Surely Allah is beautiful. He loves beauty. Pride is denying the
truth and scorning people' (Muslim).

Vocabulary :-
Heart ‫قلب‬
Atom ‫ذرة‬
Dress ‫ثوب‬
Beautiful ‫جميل‬
Scorning ‫غمط‬
Will not enter ‫ال يدخل‬
Measure ‫مثقال‬
Pride ‫كبر‬
Shoe ‫نعل‬
Deny ‫بطر‬
Narrated by Abdullah ibn Masood (RA). ‫عن عبد هللا بن مسعود‬
From the Prophet (PBUH), he said ‫عن النبي صلى هللا عليه وسلم قال‬
He who has an atom's worth of pride in ‫ال يدخل الجنة من كان في قلبه مثقال ذرة‬
his heart will not enter heaven.
‫من كبر‬

Someone asked: One wants his clothes ‫قال رجل ان الرجال يحب أن يكون ثوبه‬
and shoes to be good (would that be
prideful?)
‫حسنا ونعله حسنة‬
(The Prophet) said: Verily, Allah is ‫قال ان هللا جميل يحب الجمال‬
beautiful. He loves beauty.
Pride is denying the truth and scorning ‫الكبر بطر الحق وغمط الناس‬
people

Pride is one of the most important vices that destroys a person, prevents the
believer from entering heaven and undermines good deeds. It is the thought
that he is superior to others and that those around him are inferior to him.
Pride causes us to look down on people and dismiss the right things.

Some people are arrogant because they have a lot of money. Some are proud
of their high status. There are those who boast in the name of learning and in
the name of their own abilities. Some people are also proud of their lineage
and clan majesty. What a great man and will destroy pride. A sense of
superiority in oneself may prompt one to brag in front of others. Now what if
others have the same superiority to the same degree? Then look upon this
arrogant man as his rivals and enemies. It can lead to belittling and scorning
others and having bad ideas about them.

Self-aggrandizement, insulting others, slander, gossip, envy, etc. are

prohibited by Islam and most of the bad character traits are present in
arrogant people. People express pride in many forms. Some are talking while
others are walking. There are those who are proud of their beauty. Some
people's role will be that of pride. There are people who show pride in things
like house, vehicle etc. Such people have fewer and fewer opportunities to
return to good faith, and this can lead to more serious offending. Thus pride
will lead a man to hell.

What we need is the humility that we have the wealth, status and abilities that
Allah has given us and that we have not achieved anything by our own ability.
All he has is given by Allah. Therefore, we should always have the thought that
we should live by submitting to Allah and respecting His decrees. The mind
becomes humble only when it can accept the truth that everything belongs to
Allah. Iblis will plant the seeds of pride in the mind that does not accept this
truth. The first arrogant person was Iblis.
Using the blessings and adornments of worldly life. Not pride. Be unwilling to
accept the truth, dismiss it lightly, despise the have-nots, and see others as
bad. That is pride.

What have we learned?

- Pride leads to destruction.

- We must be humble.
- The proud will not enter heaven.
- Allah does not like the arrogant.
