AIR COMMERCE ACT OF 1926 established federal regulations regarding aircraft, airmen, navigational facilities and the
establishment of air traffic regulations.
CIVIL AERONAUTICS ACT OF 1938 is an act that created the Civil Aeronautics Authority, and to promote the development and
safety and to provide for the regulation of civil aeronautics.
AIRPORT AND AIRWAY IMPROVEMENT ACT was established to further improve infrastructure, operating environment, and
safety.
AIRPORT AND AIRWAY DEVELOPMENT ACT OF 1970 an act created to provide for the expansion and improvement of the
Nation's airport and airway system, for the imposition of airport and airway user charges, and for other purposes.
TITLE 14 CFR PART 139 - AIRPORT CERTIFICATION requires FAA to issue airport operating certificates to airports.
AIRPORT SPONSOR is a common reference to the legal entity that operates an airport. The airport sponsor could be a city,
county, airport authority, state or private company.
AIRPORT DIRECTOR is often appointed by the mayor, he is responsible for safe, secure, and efficient operation of the airport.
He must supervise all of the functions of an airport.
PAVEMENT PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE – Airports are required to have a preventive maintenance management program, and
it is often the function of Airport Operations to report pavement deterioration.
CONFORMITY TO PLANS AND SPECIFICATION - Airport Operations personnel are often charged with overseeing the safety of
construction on airports.
CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION AND APPROVAL – Airports are required to maintain competent, technical supervision of the
construction site and to ensure that any project complies with regulations prescribed by the FAA.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE – Airport operators are required to operate the airport in a safe and serviceable condition.
HAZARD REMOVAL AND MITIGATION – Airports are required to take appropriate action to protect airspace, which includes
AIRPORT MOVEMENT AREA (AMA), from obstructions.
ECONOMIC NON-DISCRIMINATION – The airport is required to be available for public use on reasonable terms.
