BEFORE PERFORMING CPR Annexure 1
• First, look around carefully to make sure
the area is safe for yourself and others
before approaching.
• Also, Ensure Is the environment safe for
the victim/ injured Person/ casualty.
• If not, then Move the Person to the safe
Place with caution to perform CPR.
• Check the person by Shaking them gently
by holding their shoulders and asking them
loudly (Are you ok, Are you fine)
• Shout for help, as any assistance will be
helpful, if you have someone else with
you, ask them to make the Emergency Call
or (ambulance Service (108,112), Hospitals
nearby).
• Gently tilt the head back as shown in the
image to open the airway. Look, Listen,
and Feel for signs of normal breathing,
Chest Movements, listen for normal
breathing and sound, and try to feel their
breath against your face. Do all this in not
more than 10 Seconds.
• Check for pulse. Pulse points in the body
(Felt on the wrist, Neck)
• Check for the above two points if you can
find a pulse or normal breathing or any
movements, then do not proceed with
CPR.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR)

• Start by placing the heel of one hard at
the center of the person’s chest and
interlock your fingers as shown in the first
image. (Place the dominant hand above
the non-dominant hand)
• With arms Straightened, press down hard
and fast, letting the chest come back fully
each time. (Fast means around 2 times
every second) (Hard means that the chest
needs to go down by about 5 cm/2 inches
for the adults and 1.5 inches for children).
• Rescue breathing at 2:30, 2 rescue
breaths after every 30 compressions.
• Open the airway and close the nose for
performing Rescue breathing.
• If someone else is with you, swap over if
you begin to feel tired, and don’t stop
until help arrives or the person starts to
breath normally.
• If there is no AED (Automated external
defibrillator) available, Keep going with
CPR until the ambulance arrives.
POST CPR CARE Annexure - 3
• After ROSC (Return of Spontaneous
circulation) the Patient needs Proper
post-Cardiac Arrest care for the best
chance of survival and quality of life.
• Optimize ventilation and oxygenation by
maintaining an oxygen saturation of
greater than or equal to 94%. (A Pulse
oximeter can be used)
• So, clear the crowd around the victim/
injured Person/ casualty.
• Do not place him or her in direct sun.
• Move him under a shade with Proper
airflow.
• Place him in a comfortable or recovery
position, Till the Ambulance Arrives.
• Recovery Position – if the Person is
unconscious but is breathing and has no
other life-threatening conditions, they
should be placed in the Recover position
• If they have no fractures or back injuries,
they can be moved to the Recover
position.
• Don’t make the victim panic, keep him
calm, tell him you are safe, you are in
good hands, you are ok.
