Aloha Unit2

The document provides numerical questions and solutions related to Pure and Slotted ALOHA systems, focusing on throughput calculations. It includes examples for calculating throughput based on frame generation rates and transmission times, along with maximum throughput values for both systems. Additionally, it discusses the average number of transmissions for achieving maximum throughput and provides a specific example of transmission efficiency in Pure ALOHA.

ALOHA Numerical Questions with Solutions

1. Pure ALOHA Throughput

Q1. In a Pure ALOHA system, if the average number of frames generated is 10 per second and the

average transmission time is 0.05 seconds, calculate the throughput.

Solution:

G = lambda x T = 10 x 0.05 = 0.5

S = G x e^(-2G) = 0.5 x e^(-1) approx 0.5 x 0.3679 = 0.1839

2. Slotted ALOHA Throughput

Q2. For a Slotted ALOHA system, with a frame generation rate of 20 frames/sec and transmission

time of 0.02 sec, calculate throughput.

Solution:

G = 20 x 0.02 = 0.4

S = G x e^(-G) = 0.4 x e^(-0.4) approx 0.4 x 0.6703 = 0.2681

3. Max Throughput

Q3. What is the maximum throughput of Pure ALOHA and Slotted ALOHA?

Answer:

Pure ALOHA: 1/(2e) approx 0.184

Slotted ALOHA: 1/e approx 0.368

4. Find G for Maximum Throughput

Q4. Find the value of G (average number of transmissions) for maximum throughput in:

a) Pure ALOHA: Max at G = 0.5

b) Slotted ALOHA: Max at G = 1

5. Transmission Efficiency

Q5. A station uses Pure ALOHA with a data rate of 56 kbps and frame size of 1000 bits. What is the
maximum throughput?

Solution:

Transmission time = 1000 / 56000 = 0.017857 sec

Max throughput = 0.184 x 56 kbps = 10.304 kbps
