System Reliability

UEHL-El Oued Faculty of Science and Technology

Department of Mechanical Engineering M1: Industrial Maintenance
Series -3-
Exercice 1 :
1- A process is represented by the following system :

• Calculate the system reliability

• What can be done to improve this system?
2- The device shown below has the following elementary reliabilities over 1000 hours :
Ra=0,87 ; Rb=0,85 ; Rc=Rd=0,89 ;Re=0,94 ; Rf=0,96 ; Rg=0,97
** Calculate the overall reliability .

3- The device shown below has the following elementary

reliabilities over 1000 hours :
Ra=0,90 ; Rb= Rc = 0,81 ; Rd = Re = Rf = 0,66 ; Rg = 0,93

** Calculate the reliability and the failure rate of the entire system.

Exercice 2
Two handling carts are operating in active redundancy Their lifetime
distribution follows an exponential law R(t) = e-λt.
The MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of one cart is 54 hours.
** What is the system reliability after 16 hours with passive redundancy, given that Rd= 0.99.

Exercice 3
A.
Consider a system composed of two components, S1 and S2, arranged in passive redundancy:
• The failure rate of S1 is given as λ1=0.002 failures per hour.
• The failure rate of S2 is given as λ2=0.003 failures per hour.

The switching device (DC) is assumed to be perfect (RDC(t)=1.

Determine the system reliability R(t) after t=100 hours
B.
both components have the same constant failure rate:
• λ1=λ2=0.001 failures rate.
Find the system reliability R(t) after t=200 hours.

Exercice 4:
Redondance majoritaire
λB = 2.10-6 déf/h
λD = 3.10-7 déf/h

R(s) = ?
