Seismic data loading in Petrel

1. Insert a new seismic folder


2. Right click seismic folder &
Insert a seismic survey

3. Right click on survey & select Import on selection.


Choose the correct file & choose format SEGY
Seismic data with preset parameters. Click Open.

4. In the SEGY – Import dialog choose the correct


survey (2D or 3D), correct vintage or define a new
vintage. Change the line detection method to Trace
trace header.

5. Set the correct byte locations for INLINE XLINE no, X Y positions of
the data. According to the SEG-Y standards following are the byte
locations
Inline number Byte location 17
Xline number 21
X-cordinates 73
Y-cordinates 77

Choose the start & ending trace. Click Scan. Once satisfied with the byte locations click ok.
6. Choose the correct domain , Vintage & CRS of the data. Click
Ok.

OR

If you choose the format SEGY Seismic data(*) then you will directly cm to step no-6. There is
no need to set the byte locations.
