Characters:

Boss – Mrs. Anne

Employee – Sarah

The Unbalanced Report

Scene: Boss’s Office.
(Mrs. Anne is sitting at her desk with a serious look. She is holding a printed report. She
calls out for her employee.)
Boss : Sarah, can you come into my office for a minute?

Employee : Sure, Mrs. Anne. Is something wrong?

Boss : I just looked at the Profit and Loss Statement you sent me. There’s
something wrong. It says we made a net profit of RM45,000 this quarter.
Employee : Wait, RM45,000? That doesn’t sound right. I thought it should be around
RM15,000.
Boss : Exactly. Based on our revenue and expenses, RM15,000 makes more
sense. Unless we suddenly found some magic money?
Employee : Hmm, I checked everything carefully last night. Oh! Oh no. I think I know
what happened.
Boss : Go on.

Employee : I accidentally sent you the first draft of the report! That version didn’t
have all the expenses yet like office rent and the repair costs for the
printer.
Boss : Are you sure?

Employee : Yes, I’m sure now. I’m really sorry, Mrs. Anne. That draft was not meant
to be sent. I’ll send the correct one right away.

Boss : Okay, that explains it. For a second, I thought we had a big accounting
mistake or that we hit the jackpot!
Employee : No jackpot, I’m afraid! Just me mixing up the files. I’ll double-check and
send the correct P&L report in the next 10 minutes.
Boss : Thank you. Let’s make sure we always double-check our work
especially financial reports. We don’t want anyone getting the wrong
idea about our profits.
Employee : You’re right, Mrs. Anne. It won’t happen again.

Boss : Alright. Let’s stick to real numbers not magical ones!

Employee : Agreed!
