Event: Medical and Eye camp

Place: PUMS Thiruppalaivanam Middle School
Purpose: To provide free medical and eye check-up and give commodities at a nominal price.
Summary:
The camp was conducted in the association with Gulecha trust, K K Nagar, sponsored by Sri. K.
Subhashchand Kasturi Bai Ranka.
The camp started at around 9:30 a.m. where the volunteers where split up into 4 domains namely
registration, medical (general) check-up, eye check-up and medicine distribution. The place where the
check-up was arranged were properly cleaned and arranged based on the convenience of the doctors.
Medicines and other medical equipments like hearing aids, cervical collars, inhalers, etc. were arranged
by the sponsors. Patients started arriving, registered at the registration desk where they were given
tokens for medical and eye check-up. Following this they were asked to wait in the waiting room from
where they were directed to the respective rooms by the volunteers.
General medical check-up:
The patients consulted the doctors and they tried to address their grievances by directing them to take
free B.P, sugar test and giving them medicines. The pharmacist provided the medicines based on the
prescription, free of cost.
Other basic medical equipments were available at a minimal price.
Eye check-up:
Initially the patients were enquired about their basic problems and were directed to the ophthalmologist
based on it. They were checked if they had cataract in their eyes. Once the test was completed, they
were taken to check their eye power. Spectacles were prescribed with the suitable power which was
provided at a nominal price ₹ 50. People who had severe cataract issue were taken to M.N. Eye Hospital,
Tondiarpet to perform surgery immediately and were provided with basic facilities free of cost.

Conclusion:
The villagers were provided with essential benefits, including increasing access to medical services for
underserved communities, early detection of health issues, preventive care, and promoting overall
community well-being. The volunteers learnt the importance of healthcare and gained management
skills and how to patiently deal with people.
