Project Paper
Background / History of the company.
Bubble Laundry Shop is a relatively new laundry business, established on October 18,
2022. As of the interview date, the business has been operating for less than two years.
Currently, the shop focuses on providing basic wash and dry laundry services. The business
model is currently integrated with a water delivery service, using existing delivery routes to
facilitate laundry pickup and drop-off in some cases. This integration serves as a cost-effective
solution for initial operations, while the establishment of a dedicated delivery system is under
consideration due to associated costs and the competitive pricing landscape in the area. Future
expansion plans include the addition of specialized laundry services, but this is contingent on
market demand and the feasibility of implementing these services within the current operational
constraints.
Discuss the following aspects in terms of:
So, in Organizational and Management;
Bubble Laundry is a small laundry shop, with an
organizational structure that is simple and cost-effective.
Right now, the owner often or also the manager handle
most aspects of the business operation, finances, and
customer service. While on the other hand, staffs carry out
the core tasks of washing, drying, ironing, and folding
laundry, ensuring that garments are cleaned. Lastly there
is customer service or front desk attendant manages
customer interactions, receiving laundry, processing
orders, taking payments.
• about their Operational/Technical;
They use regular washing machines and dryers.
They’re using a water delivery service for pick-up and
drop-off of it’s customers laundry, which saves money
now, but it’s not ideal. They don’t have a system for
tracking orders of it’s customers laundry and lack of
payment’s method (for now it’s all cash), making things
slow and prone to mistakes. They want to add delivery
and other services later, but their dreams of expanding
services are currently held back by these operational
constraints.
• and on their Marketing;
They haven’t done much marketing yet. They mostly
rely on word-of-mouth and the water delivery service’s for
the drop off and pick up of laundry of it’s customers. They
don’t know much about their customers because they
don’t track their laundry orders and feedback. This makes
it difficult to understand what their customers want. They
need to find better ways to reach new customers and
understand what they want to improve their marketing
strategy.
• and financial aspect (if available).
We don’t know the exact financial details, but the interview showed they’re worried about
the cost of adding a delivery service. Their current system isn’t very efficient, so it probably
affects their profits. A better system could help them save money and make more in the long
run. They might need a loan or investment to make big improvements.
Ask the company if they are using any Information System (15).
• If No:
• How they transact their transaction?
The interview doesn’t explicitly state the payment method. However, given the informal,
integrated nature of the business, it’s highly probable that transactions are primarily conducted
using cash at the time of laundry drop-off or pickup. There is no mention of credit cards, mobile
payments, or any other electronic payment methods.
• What are the challenges they encountered? Is there any system that they wanted to
adopt or develop to improved their process?
The most significant challenge is maintaining efficient order management. The lack of a
robust order laundry tracking system results in confusion and errors. The reliance on cash-only
payments is also problematic, creating inconvenience for customers and posing security risks.
The implementation of a delivery service presents another major obstacle. While highly
desirable, the substantial costs associated with establishing a reliable delivery system are a
concern, particularly regarding the impact on pricing within the competitive market. Finally, the
absence of a system for collecting and analyzing customer and order data limits the ability to
identify areas for improvement and optimize services.
A pickup and delivery system is the top priority. It’s believed this would substantially increase
customer attraction and allow for service expansion. However, the projected high costs of
implementation, encompassing fuel and personnel expenses, represent a major hurdle.
Although no specific plan or system has been selected, enhancing scheduling and delivery
capabilities is the primary focus.
• Assess the need for developing an information system
Based on the provided interview, the need for developing a dedicated information
system for the laundry business is significant. The current system, relying on an informal
integration with a water delivery service, presents several limitations:
Inefficient Operations: Order tracking, scheduling, and payment processing are likely manual
and prone to errors. This inefficiency impacts customer service and operational efficiency.
Limited Scalability: The current system cannot easily handle increased customer demand or
expansion of services (e.g., adding delivery, specialized laundry options).\
Pricing Pressure: The lack of efficiency puts pressure on pricing, making it difficult to compete
with more organized laundries. The owner acknowledges the competitive pricing pressure in
the 140-160 peso range.
Lack of Data: The absence of a formal system prevents the collection of valuable business
data (customer preferences, order frequency, revenue trends), hindering informed decision-
making and strategic planning.
Make valid recommendations on what system is going to be develop by following the
lessons you have learned in our subject.
Bubble Laundry Shop needs a dedicated information system to improve its operations
and grow. The current system, relying on a water delivery service, is inefficient and lacks the
ability to track orders, manage payments, or collect customer data. This limits their ability to
offer competitive pricing, expand services, and make informed decisions.
To address these challenges, the company should develop a system that integrates
order management, payment processing, and delivery scheduling. This system should be
modular, cloud-based, and user-friendly, allowing for future expansion and seamless integration
with existing systems. By implementing the system in phases and involving staff in the
development process, Bubble Laundry Shop can ensure it meets their specific needs and
improves their overall efficiency and customer experience.
