My Earth Overshoot Day is the 4th of May, and if everybody lived like me we would need 2.
9 Earths to
sustain ourselves. Earth overshoot day is the day in the year that humanity uses more total resources
than can be replenished in a year. An earlier overshoot day indicates less sustainability while a later date
implies more sustainable practices. We would need the resources of nearly two additional earths to
sustain humanity if everybody lived like me.
Solutions:
1) I can use more public transit and/or bike to nearby locations.
2) I can consume less animal products.
3) I can buy more locally sourced produce.
4) I can carpool more often.
5) I can be more mindful of my food waste.
6) I can offer more support to reproductive rights organizations.
7) If I own a home in the future, I can buy energy efficient appliances.
8) I can buy a smaller, more efficient vehicle.
9) I can write to my government representatives and push for sustainability.
10) I can talk to my friends and family about more sustainable practices.
