I. OVERVIEW OF THE SUBJECT


A. Subject Description
 This course makes senior high school students aware of the developmental stage that they are in, for them to better
understand themselves and the significant people around them as they make important career decisions as adolescents. The
course consists of modules, each of which addresses a key concern in personal development. Using the experiential learning
approach, each module invites students to explore specific themes in their development. Personal reflections, sharing, and
lectures help reveal and articulate relevant concepts, theories, and tools in different areas in psychology.

B. Subject Learning Outcomes


1. Explain that knowing oneself can make a person accept his/her strengths and limitations and dealing with others better
and share his/her unique characteristics, habits, and experiences;
2. Show the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in actual life situations and evaluate his/her own
thoughts, feelings, and behaviours;
3. Discuss developmental tasks and challenges being experienced during adolescence;
4. Identify ways that help one become capable and responsible adolescent prepared for adult life;
5. Identify causes and effect of stress in one’s life and demonstrate personal ways to cope with stress and maintain
mental health;
6. Discuss that understanding the different parts of the brain, processes and functions may help in improving thoughts,
behaviour and feelings;
7. Discuss that understanding the intensity and differentiation of emotions may help in communicating emotional
expressions; and
8. Demonstrate and create ways to manage various emotions.

C. Subject requirements
1. First quarter Portfolio (Long, violet Folder)
2. Notebook (any color) – for note taking
3. Reflection Notebook (white-St. Benedict, Blue-St. Scholastica, Red-St. Ignatius)
4. Short bond papers (for activities) - to be included in the portfolio
5. Performance task for first quarter- making a creative autobiography scrapbook

D. Grading system
1. Written Works - 25%
2. Performance Tasks - 50%
3. Quarterly Assessment - 25%
