IT0047 - Computer Systems and Platform Technologies Assignment

Uy, Charles A. Module 1

TW31 Mr. Heintjie Vicente

1. What are the rules in adding decimal and binary numbers? Give two examples.
2. What are the rules in subtracting decimal and binary numbers? Give two examples.
3. Kindly give three examples of multiplying octal, hexadecimal, and any base number system.
4. Also, three examples of dividing octal, hexadecimal, and any base number system.

1. Rules for Adding Decimal and Binary Numbers:

 Decimal numbers are added from right to left, with each column
representing a power of 10 (i.e., 1s, 10s, 100s, etc.) Example: 23.5 +
10.75 = 34.25
 Binary numbers are added from right to left, with each column
representing a power of 2 (i.e., 1s, 2s, 4s, 8s, etc.) Example: 1011 +
1101 = 11000 (carry-over 1 to the next column)
2. Rules for Subtracting Decimal and Binary Numbers:
 Decimal numbers are subtracted by lining up the digits by their place
value and subtracting from right to left. Example: 23.5 - 10.75 = 12.75
 Binary numbers are subtracted by using the same process as decimal
subtraction but borrowing 1 from the next column when necessary.
Example: 1011 - 1101 = 110 (borrow 1 from the next column)
3. Examples of Multiplying:
 Octal: 73 (base 8) x 25 (base 8) = 1605 (base 8)
 Hexadecimal: 2A (base 16) x 3B (base 16) = 7F2 (base 16)
 Base 5: 23 (base 5) x 41 (base 5) = 131 (base 5)
4. Examples of Dividing:
 Octal: 736 (base 8) ÷ 23 (base 8) = 46 (base 8)
 Hexadecimal: 2BD (base 16) ÷ 14 (base 16) = 1B (base 16)
 Base 6: 413 (base 6) ÷ 11 (base 6) = 33 (base 6)
