Geologist is a scientist who Palaeontologist is a scientist who
studies rocks and soil studies fossils found in rocks.
Index fossils are the remains of organisms that lived for a short period of
time but were widespread across the Earth.
Scientists use them to determine the age of rock layers.
The fossil records is the collection of all known fossils and their
placement in rock layers over time.
Deeper layers = Older fossils (like pages from an ancient chapter).
Upper layers = Newer fossils (closer to the present).
Example: If scientists find a fossil of a trilobite in a deep rock layer and a dinosaur
fossil in a layer above it, they know that trilobites lived before dinosaurs.
