Narrative Report
In line with the school's commitment to promoting oral health and
overall well-being among Pupils parents, and the community, Eday
Elementary School successfully conducted a School-Based Dental
Program for the 3rd Quarter with the theme "Oral Health Dapat
Sapat; Sipilyo at Check-Up Tapat." This initiative aimed to educate
and provide essential dental services to learners, parents, and pregnant
women to prevent dental problems and promote healthy oral habits.
The event featured a comprehensive set of activities designed to raise
awareness and provide practical dental care to the participants. The key
activities included:
As the dentist and keynote speaker, I delivered an informative lecture
on the importance of maintaining healthy teeth. The session covered
topics such as proper brushing techniques, the role of fluoride in
preventing cavities, the effects of poor oral hygiene, and the significance
of regular dental check-ups. Parents and pregnant women were also given
guidance on oral health care for children and prenatal dental care.
1. Feeding Program
A feeding program was conducted to ensure that students received
nutritious food that supports oral and overall health. The meals
provided were carefully selected to be teeth-friendly, avoiding
excessive sugar while promoting calcium-rich foods for strong teeth.
2. Handwashing and Toothbrushing Drill
Proper hygiene is essential in preventing oral and general health
issues. Pupils actively participated in a handwashing and
toothbrushing drill, demonstrating correct handwashing steps and
the ideal method of brushing teeth using fluoride toothpaste.
3. Fluoride Varnish Application
To prevent the progression of dental caries, fluoride varnish
was applied to the teeth of students. This preventive treatment
helps strengthen tooth enamel and slows down the formation of
cavities, particularly on surfaces where white spots (early signs of
decay) were observed.
4. Parlor Games
To engage and entertain the pupils while reinforcing key oral health
messages, various parlor games were organized. These games
were designed to be both fun and educational, incorporating oral
health concepts to reinforce learning in an enjoyable way.
5. Free Haircut in Collaboration with the Armed Forces of the
Philippines (AFP)
In partnership with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), a
free haircut service was provided to students. This activity aimed
to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and confidence among the
learners.
The School-Based Dental Program was a resounding success, as it not
only provided essential dental care but also instilled the importance of
good oral hygiene in pupils, parents, and pregnant women. Through
collaborative efforts among teachers, healthcare professionals, and
community partners like the AFP, the event fostered a healthier school
environment. The positive response from the participants underscores the
need for continued efforts in promoting oral health and overall well-being
within the school and the community.
This initiative has set a strong foundation for sustaining proper dental care
habits, ensuring that our learners grow with healthy smiles and the
knowledge to maintain their oral health throughout their lives.
