“Countable & Uncountable Nouns” Lesson Plan Overview
Time: May 19th – June 1st. Term: 2nd. Grade: 6th.
This is a six-day lesson plan for 6th grade focusing on countable and uncountable nouns,
incorporating a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach. This plan integrates
the subject of Food and Nutrition (Home Economics/Health) to make the learning more practical
and relatable.
Six-Day 6th Grade Lesson Plan: Countable & Uncountable Nouns (CLIL)

Overall Goal: Students will be able to identify, differentiate, and correctly use countable and
uncountable nouns in sentences and in the context of food and nutrition, while also learning basic
food-related vocabulary.
Day 1: Introduction to Nouns and Food Vocabulary
Language Focus: Review of nouns (people, places, things). Introduction to basic food
vocabulary (apple, bread, water, etc.).
Content Focus: Introduction to different food groups (fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.).
Activity: Brainstorming session: Students list different types of food and categorize
them based on food groups.
Day 2: Countable Nouns - Can We Count It?
Language Focus: Introduction to countable nouns (nouns that can be counted: apples,
bananas, eggs). Introduction to the use of "a/an" and plural forms.
Content Focus: Identifying foods that can be counted.
Activity: Students sort pictures of food items into "countable" and "uncountable"
categories. They practice using "a/an" and plural forms with countable nouns.

Day 3: Uncountable Nouns - We Can't Count It!
Language Focus: Introduction to uncountable nouns (nouns that cannot be counted
individually: water, rice, sugar). Introduction to using "some" and "any" with
uncountable nouns.
Content Focus: Identifying foods that are uncountable.
Activity: Students create sentences using "some" and "any" with uncountable nouns
(e.g., "I have some milk." "Do you have any cheese?").
Day 4: Measuring and Quantifying Uncountable Nouns
Language Focus: Introduction to quantifiers used with uncountable nouns (e.g., a cup
of, a slice of, a bottle of).
Content Focus: Learning about different units of measurement used for food.
Activity: Students match food items with appropriate quantifiers (e.g., "a cup of rice," "a
slice of bread"). They practice using these phrases in sentences.
Day 5: Recipe Time! Using Countable and Uncountable Nouns
Language Focus: Applying knowledge of countable and uncountable nouns in a
practical context.
Content Focus: Reading and understanding a simple recipe.
Activity: Students read a simple recipe and identify the countable and uncountable nouns
used. They rewrite the recipe, highlighting the nouns in different colors.
Day 6: Assessment and Review - Menu Creation
Language Focus: Review of countable and uncountable noun rules.
Content Focus: Creating a balanced meal using food vocabulary.
Activity: Students create a menu for a healthy meal, using both countable and
uncountable nouns to describe the food items and quantities. They write sentences
describing their menu, using the vocabulary learned throughout the week.
