QUESTION ONE (30 MARKS)

a) i) Differentiate voltage from current (1 mark)


ii) If 2.25 x1022 electronics flow from a battery through a load of 10𝞨 for an hour
determine:-
ii) Charge discharged from the battery (3 marks)
iii) The current that can flow (2 marks)
iv) The p.d. of the battery (2 marks)
v) the e.m.f of the battery (internal resistance =0.05 𝞨) (2 marks)
b) Show that the equivalent inductance for inductors in series is L eq=L1+L2+ …..+Ln (2 marks).
c) Define the following terms:
i) Cell (0.5 marks)
ii) Batter (0.5 marks)
iii) Primary cells (0.5 marks)
Iv) Secondary cells (0.5 marks)
d) State the following theorems:-
i) Kirchhoff’s hours (1.5 marks)
ii) Norton’s theorem (1.5 marks)
e) Explain why a junction between p-type and n-type materials creates a contact potential

f) A differentiation amplifier has an open-loop voltage gain of 240. The input signals are
V1=2.5V and V2 =2.4V. Calculate the output voltage of the amplifiers (3 marks)

b) i) Find the Thevenin’s equivalent circuit by removing K020 and 30R branch (4 marks)
ii) What is the current thought this branch? (3 marks)
iii) From your calculations in (ii) above, are the maximum power transfer conditions met?
(2 marks) What is your suggestion? (2 marks)
iv) Convert this Thevenin’s circuit into Norton’s and show it with the help of sketches (3
marks)
