Research

The experiment investigates whether the weight of a sphere affects the distance it travels when rolled down an inclined plane. The hypothesis suggests that heavier spheres will exert more force and travel farther due to their weight. Results indicate that the heaviest sphere traveled the farthest, supporting the hypothesis that weight influences distance traveled.

Effect of the spheres weights when rolled down the plane

I. Research Question. (Should be answerable by YES or NO).

Does the weight of a sphere affect the distance of the sphere when rolled down

II. Hypothesis: Please state your hypothesis (follow the If-then-because format).
If the sphere is heavier then the force exerted to the box will be powerful because the heavier the
object the fatal the impact

III. Materials:(numerate the materials you used in the experiment. Please take a photo of the materials.)
1) 3 Sphere/marbles
2) inclined plane
3) metric ruler
4) folder

IV. Procedure: (Take a photo of the step-by-step procedure.)

1. Find a place with an inclined plane or make your own
2. Place the carton box top at the end line drawn on the inclined plane
3.take the lightest sphere and roll it down the plane with no added force and record the distance
travelled
4. Repeat the step 3 using the medium sphere , but with added force by pushing the sphere
5. Repeat the step 3 using the heaviest sphere but with added force by pushing the sphere

V. Gathering Data
(Please create a data table for the measured and observed quantities for your variables. The table
below is just an example; you may create your own.)

Title of the data table: the spheres each distance got when rolled down
Sphere's The distance each sphere got when rolled
Weight down Mean
Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3
Light 250cm 159cm 258cm
Medium 265cm 285cm 223cm
Heavy 477cm 390cm 474cm

VI. Analyzing Data (Please graph your observations for a better visual presentation of data. You may use
bar graph, line graph or pie chart depending on the dependent and independent variables and data you
gathered.)

Guide Questions
1. What is being investigated in the experiment? ( The distance each sphere will get if its rolled down )
2. Which is the control setup in your experiment? ( The light sphere)
3. Which is the constant/ independent/ dependent variable?( The height of the inclined plane/ the
spheres height/the distance travelled of sphere)
4. What result do you expect to observe that will support your hypothesis? Did you observe the same
results after the experiment?( The result we expect is the heaviest sphere will get the farthest
distance)

VII. Conclusion
(State what you observed in the experiment. Is your hypothesis correct? What conclusion/s can you
derive from the experiment? You may compose a 2-paragraph conclusion. You may start the last
sentence with “ The researchers therefore conclude that….”).
The heavier sphere got the farthest distance compare to the medium and the lightest sphere because the
force that pushes the box depends by how heavy the sphere is ,the sphere speed when roll add a force to
push the box , The researcher therefore conclude that the heaviest sphere got the farthest distance from
the three sized sphere .
